Research Technician II, Touchstone Diabetes Center

The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center

Location

Type, TX | United States

Job description

Why join Touchstone Diabetes Center?

The Touchstone Center for Diabetes Research is devoted to the study of the cells and tissues that are either contributing to or are affected by diabetes and its related diseases. Research in the Touchstone Center for Diabetes Research focuses on both basic and clinical aspects of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, and questions related to the impact of diabetes and obesity on cardiovascular disease outcome and cancer incidence.

The Center is currently focusing on the identification and physiological characterization of adipocyte-specific gene products and the elucidation of pathways that are an integral part of the complex set of reactions that drive adipogenesis. The Center hopes to unravel novel mechanisms and identify novel proteins that could serve as potential links between the adipocyte and the process of whole-body energy homeostasis, thereby defining novel targets for pharmacological intervention and further define the role of adipose tissue as an endocrine tissue. Until recently, adipose tissue has been a mere storage compartment of triglycerides. It is now becoming clear that adipocytes are highly responsive to extracellular stimuli, play a central role in overall energy homeostasis and are also essential for certain aspects of the immune system.
