Harrington Laboratory Overview

Position Overview

This candidate for this position will be conducting supervised research in a laboratory studying mosquito and tick biology and behavior as well as insecticide resistance of mosquitoes. The incumbent will be expected to perform routine research under the direct supervision of laboratory staff and Dr. Harrington. Laboratory techniques to assist with will include but are not limited to mosquito rearing and colony maintenance, mosquito dissections and bioassays, mosquito and tick field collection, and other techniques and procedures as necessary. In addition, the incumbent will clean and maintain laboratory equipment and collect laboratory waste for disposal per protocols. The incumbent will also be expected to prepare bottle bioassays for resistance monitoring and perform other types of insecticide resistance assays. Data entry and responsible data management is also expected.

Duties will include:

Due to the unpredictable nature of the NEVBD submission system the candidate must be willing to work some weekends and occasional odd hours, particularly in the summer. Occasional travel throughout the northeastern United States may be required to collect field specimens or meet with public health collaborators.

This is a full-time (39 hours / week) temporary 6 month appointment that is eligible for benefits. Contract renewal is contingent upon available funding.
