Job description

Perform general cabinetry work, planning, layout, repair, construction and installation of cabinets in USU Housing buildings. Accomplishes this by applying skills in conjunction with advanced technical knowledge and the ability to analyze and understand unique project requests. Works as a member of a team on various cabinet projects or assignments.

  1. Sets up and operates variety of woodworking machines and uses various hand tools to fabricate and repair wooden cabinets and furniture: Studies blueprints or drawings of articles to be constructed or repaired, and plans sequence of cutting, building and installing operations to be performed.
  2. Sets up and operates cabinet making machines, such as power saws, jointer, planer, edge bander and line bore to cut and shape parts from woodstock.
  3. Studies blueprints and shop drawings in combination with work orders of articles to be produced to develop a list of materials necessary for the order. Plans a sequence of cutting, building and installing operations to be performed for these materials.
  4. Machines components for the installation of hardware items that may include hinges, locksets, catches, drawers, drawer slides, knobs, pulls, etc.
  5. Coordinates large projects and delegate job assignments to other team members to insure accurate and timely completion of a project.
  6. Create detailed outline of procedures for large projects including both labor and material budgets.
  7. Order correct amount of materials for large projects.
  8. Coordinates work assignments, inspection of completed work and training of team members.
  9. Keeps work area/shop clean and organized. Sweeps floors, picks ups and disposes of scrap and debris, returns tools to the proper place when finished using them.
  10. Training of new employees by providing hands-on experience with shop equipment and procedures.
  11. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  12. Create and maintain a positive team work environment to achieve desired results.
  13. Plan and coordinate with management team the installation of cabinet projects.
  14. Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned such as assists work in the other areas of USU Housing.
