Job description
JOB SUMMARY
A GIS Intern is responsible for assisting GIS Professionals in supporting ITC’s GIS Maps and Applications. They perform many tasks associated with mapping transmission lines, poles, and substations. They may also be called on to support GIS applications related to ITC’s vegetation management program and other GIS tasks that support the transmission system.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONIBILITIES
Create or update systems or databases for specific department needs, including GIS data management and asset management systems.
Coordinate record updates with engineers, consultants, project managers, and maintenance personnel to ensure accurate and up-to-date geospatial data.
Perform drawing control functions, including revision control, drawing logs, and archiving, to maintain accurate records.
Generate maps, drawings, GIS layers, applications, and data sets for use by other departments and external entities.
Assist in the development and maintenance of asset management systems for transmission infrastructure.
Prepare GIS layers, applications, and data sets for other departments and external entities.
Adhere to documentation standards for geospatial data inputs and management processes.
REQUIREMENTS
Currently enrolled in an accredited Geographic Information Systems or Information Technology degree program.
Familiarity with ESRI's suite of products such as ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online.
Familiarity with GIS data editing techniques, including adding, modifying, and deleting features in the geodatabase while maintaining data integrity and adherence to established standards and workflows.
Strong problem-solving skills to troubleshoot data-related issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions in a timely manner.
An understanding of geodatabases, including their structure, organization, and the ability to navigate and manipulate data within them.
Understanding of coordinate systems, map projections, and transformations to ensure accurate spatial data representation and alignment with other datasets.
Ability to multi-task and work under minimal supervision, in a team environment.
Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Access).
Ability to learn and utilize job specific software
Willingness and ability to work 40 hours per week
