Job description
Keep commercial buildings in clean and orderly condition. Perform heavy cleaning duties, such as cleaning floors, shampooing rugs, washing walls and glass, and removing trash. Duties include communication and coordination with crew members and management about cleaning activities and needs related to supplies, equipment and maintenance. Some positions require safety certification testing.
DETAILED WORK ACTIVITIES
Service, clean, or supply restrooms
Clean building walls and floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming
Gather dispose of trash or waste materials
Follow procedures for the preparation and use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures
Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications
Clean windows, glass partitions, or mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, or squeegees
Notify lead/supervisor concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems
Notify lead/supervisor of supplies or equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties
Confer with coworkers to coordinate maintenance or cleaning activities
Dust furniture, walls, machines, or equipment
Clean and polish furniture, walls and fixtures
Steam clean or shampoo carpets
Operate grounds maintenance equipment
Maintain equipment or systems to ensure proper functioning
Move heavy furniture, equipment, or supplies, either manually or by using hand trucks
Monitor building security and safety by performing tasks such as locking doors after operating hours or checking electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not created
Drive trucks or other vehicles to or at work sites
Some positions require safety certification testing
