Job description

The Cooperative Communications Specialist role supports the communications and marketing efforts to create and maintain a favorable public image for the Cooperative. This role executes communications and marketing activities in support of services to increase member awareness and participation. In addition, this role works to enhance Cooperative initiatives to increase engagement with employees, members and the general public.

The following duties are not intended to cover each aspect of the position as the scope and duties of a given position may change or be temporarily altered based on the business needs of Snapping Shoals EMC. The basic requirement of every position is to perform all tasks as assigned by the department supervisor.

 

• Creates all internal communications for Cooperative, including employee newsletter, intranet posts, announcements, digital signage and all other internal communications by providing accurate content and photography.
• Creates external printed newsletter and e-newsletter by providing accurate content, photography, and articles.
• Creates and posts content for the Cooperative’s website and social media pages.
• Monitors and responds to social media comments and questions.
• Coordinates Cooperative’s scholarship and Youth Tour programs, Bright Ideas grants, and participation in the Georgia High School Association.
• Coordinates Cooperative’s participation in Career Days and School Presentations.
• Creates Cooperative’s internal and external informational/promotional materials, including flyers, forms, booklets, brochures, letters and bill stuffers.
• Organizes and digitally archives Cooperative’s photo library, including employee badge photos.
• Assists in writing letters and preparing reports, presentations and proposals as needed.
• Assists with Cooperative’s involvement in community events.
• Assists with Annual Meeting planning as needed.
• Creates press releases and ads for publications.
• Builds favorable relationships with the public, members, employees, and vendors.
• Handles all internal and external photography and video productions for the Cooperative, or contracts with professionals to arrange all aspects of the production.
• Assists in the development of all internal and external communications.
• Assists in marketing research and marketing plans.

 

Language Skills:
Ability to create content for publication that conforms to Cooperative’s style and format. Must possess the ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical materials, financial reports and legal documents. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to proper style and format.

 

Technical Skills:
• Must be proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
• Proficiency in graphic design elements.
• Highly competent in all social media platforms.
• Proficiency in Microsoft suite, including Word and Outlook.
• Able to perform in a Mac or Windows environment.

• Excellent desktop publishing skills required utilizing current technology and software.

 

Other Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and responsibilities in timely manner.

• Must be able to accurately input and retrieve data from computer.
• Ability to use judgment and wisdom in handling confidential information.
• Ability to develop professional relationships with area news media, advertising representatives, community groups and colleagues.
• Ability to work under pressure and handle crisis situations.

• Must be able to work irregular hours.

• Some travel required.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registration:
Valid Georgia driver’s license

 

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations or related field from a four-year college or university; two years related experience and/or training in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
