Job Summary

This position is an internship for SABIC’s Polymer Chemistry Group that will last three to six months in duration. This position is for a Ph.D. Graduate Student in the area of Polymer Chemistry, Organometallic Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering. The position is an internship within SABIC’s Polymer Chemistry Group located in the Sugarland area. Interns will be assigned to a specific lab and project team where they will conduct original research of experimental (hands-on) nature. Research will focus on the chemical synthesis of catalysts, telechelic oligomers, and/or polymers. This opportunity will allow the interns to gain work experience in an industrial R&D setting at SABIC, and it will allow SABIC to screen for potential candidates for permanent positions at SABIC Technology Centers, if permanent positions become available.

How You Can Be the Impact

• Collaborate with research and team members to complete a variety of laboratory tests and experiments
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment, and follow all safety procedures
• Complete appropriate research documentation, calculations, and data analysis and effectively communicate these results to supervisor and team members
• Submit a research report on assigned project
• Give a presentation on completed assignment
• Advance the goals of selected projects in the PolyChem Group

What Matters to SABIC

• Currently enrolled in a Ph.D. program in the field of Polymer Chemistry, Organometallic Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering.
• Mature understanding of laboratory practices and safety
• In-depth knowledge of chemical synthesis and the scientific curiosity to expand into other areas
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to draw conclusions from data to propose next steps in research
• Effective interpersonal skills and exemplar work ethics

Physical Requirements:  May need to stand and bend to conduct laboratory experiments. Will require hand-eye coordination to pour liquids or use glovebox.

Work Availability

Regular, predictable attendance is an essential function of this position. Applicants must be regularly available and willing to work (e.g. Monday – Friday) during assigned hours of operation and such other hours as the company determines are necessary or desirable to meet business needs.
