JOB SUMMARY
Coordinates the receiving, storage, and distribution of material within the plant and/or shipments to external vendors or customers. Supervises warehouse employees.
KEY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Implement, support, and fully understand processes, policies and regulations that relate to the warehouse function. Ensure all processes are documented and employees are well trained on them. Develop and implement corrective steps to ensure all areas achieve quality, cost, and productivity goals. This includes the timely and accurate receipt and storage of materials, providing production with accurate quantities and/or proper picking and ship-outs. Position may also include accountability for accurate weight verifications and the pulling of samples. Effectively manage change throughout the area of supervision and demonstrate continuous improvement concepts, ideas, and processes within the department.
- Set, monitor, and communicate department and individual goals to ensure all employees are aware of the department’s performance. Provide timely and consistent feedback, coach and motivate associates to exceed expectations. Administer corrective action as needed. Complete performance evaluations in an effective and timely manner. Identify department training needs and implement career development goals for employee growth. Assign staffing and work hours to complete daily workload schedules efficiently. Responsible for reconciliation of hours for payroll and tracking of attendance. Enforce in a firm and equal manner company policies and established rules.
- Manage inbound and/or outbound freight and communicate with production management and, as needed, assist with production’s scheduling of work. Manage shipping and/or distribution areas to ensure jobs or materials are received and shipped within pre-determined time frames. Oversee the follow-up on all internal, customer or vendor questions regarding receipt of goods and/or delivery performance. Maintain good relationships with all vendors. Take action necessary for proper resolution.
- Ensure all inventory management processes are followed so standard and customer-owned product system counts accurately reflect physical onhand quantities. Monitor to address good or bad trends in department performance.
- Accountable for safety and cleanliness of department. Ensure that all departments’ areas are kept clean orderly and maintained in the most functional manner. Maintain sound 5S practices throughout the entire area of supervision. This includes the efficient storage of materials, the effective set up of all work areas and periodic cleaning of floors, workstations and equipment. Ensure certification of all employees utilizing material handling equipment. Report accidents and any safety concerns to manufacturing and Human Resources.
- Ensure proper material disposition, disposal and recycling of excess. Perform other duties as assigned by management to achieve overall objectives of the organization.
COMMUNICATION AND CONTACTS
- Informs leaders and other internal clients of pertinent information and communicates to other departments as necessary.
- Communicates with external clients and vendors as needed.
- Effectively communicates with team and at all levels within the organization.
DECISION MAKING
- Accept or reject incoming materials and advise on conditions that may cause late delivery.
- Determine when to involve other departments in issues and involved in determining outcome.
- Truck load-out decisions such as splitting loads or when to hold or send a truck.
- Scheduling of employee hours.
- Evaluate and make purchasing recommendations relative to needs, availability, and cost.
- Recommend material handling equipment purchases based on testing, performance and costs.
- Continual evaluation and modification of work priorities.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
- High School Diploma or GED (Required)
- Associate's Degree (Preferred)
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 3 years warehouse inventory control or production related experience.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Effective communication skills to perform training and lead a team.
- Excellent teambuilding skills.
- Analytical and good problem solver.
- Must be proficient with physical counts and reconciliation.
- Ability to become certified on material handling equipment and proficient on various types of warehouse equipment.
- Ability to work extended hours, weekends and holidays.
- Bilingual preferred (if applicable).
EQUIPMENT/SOFTWARE UTILIZED
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and various Warehouse/Transportation/Inventory systems.
Additional Information
Annual Salary: $64,200 - $84,200. Additionally, this position is eligible for a Management Bonus.
The ultimate compensation offered for the position will depend upon several factors such as skill level, cost of living, experience, and responsibilities.
