Upward Bound Residential Director, NE, Part-time, term

Physical Location:

Kent Campus - Kent, OH

Salary:

$20.00/hour; up to 28 hours per week

Basic Function:

To supervise residential mentor staff and support the safety and well-being of high school students in a summer academy on the Kent State campus.

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following:  

 

Responsible for the safety and well-being of students; supervises and evaluates mentor team; maintains accurate records; works with the summer program administrative staff to organize program activities and interprets/reinforces rules and regulations. Supervises residence hall activities, discipline policies, and extra-curricular activities. Residential directors may also assist in out-of-hall duties to ensure a successful summer experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum of bachelor’s degree. A student-centered philosophy of teaching/learning and the strong ability to interact effectively with teachers, staff, students, and parents. Innovativeness; knowledge of methods for motivating students; communication skills, organizational skills, evidence of initiative, creativity, and leadership. Ability to lead students long distances across campus.

 

 

 

Preferred Qualifications – if applicable:

Enrollment in or completion of a master’s degree program in guidance and counseling, school psychology, higher education or equivalent; experience with Kent State residential policies and procedures; experience with high school students; understanding of limited income, first-generation college-bound students; knowledge of TRIO programs.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

Light work-Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Incumbent must be able to communicate with others. Incumbent required to travel from building to building and off campus frequently.

Working Schedule:

This position will fall between May 27 – July 11 and requires residing in the residence halls with the students throughout the program. Shifts can vary from late afternoon to overnight Sunday – Friday, with up to 28 hours per week. Attendance is required at mandatory staff training, student orientation, and the summer academy closing program, which all occur between May 27 – July 3. Dates and times to be determined.

Additional Information:

This is a short-term position, does not accumulate vacation time, and is contingent upon receipt of federal funds. . Some meals will be provided per grant regulations. Finalists are required to pass FBI and BCI background checks.

 

Must pass a security check.
