Job description

Learning Seeds, Inc.

$15-$40 per hour (based on experience) - Part-time

Learning Seeds is ideally looking for a part-time team member with room to grow to a full-time position if preferred by the candidate. We would consider full-time for an excellent candidate. If this position sounds like you, please apply! If the position sounds right for someone you know, share this job description with them.

Are you looking for a position in the education field, where your work can have profoundly important results such as preschool students experiencing their first friendships, their first words, or their first time pretending? Accepting resumes and cover letters for March interview rounds.

Your Background: Our Education Team members have diverse backgrounds. To be successful in this position, you may have had a job title such as an Educator, Teacher, Occupational Therapist (OT), Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP), Social Skills Coach, Counselor, or Behavior Tech. You may have studied or worked in Early Education, Early Intervention (EI), Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), 1:1 work with children, occupational therapy, speech therapy, art therapy, preschool, special education, psychology, advocacy, or teaching.

What You Will Do: You’ll spend time alongside a student as a supportive coach, helping the child experience new comfort and interest in play in order to increase their social connections. You will become an expert in our experiential social and emotional teaching method (called Enlightened Shadowing). We do not pull children aside for lessons and there is no rote curriculum to use. You will look for the opportunities in a child’s difficult behaviors as you work directly one-on-one to help the child plug-in to the real play happening in the moment in their classroom or camp community of typically developing peers. Watch an example of our work with a student.

As a member of our EdTech startup, you will also have regular opportunities to share your ideas, observations, tips, and input to influence the plan for a student, while contributing content to the EdTech tools we are developing for future students, parents, and educators.

You are prepared to try new ideas, troubleshoot new technologies, go out on a limb, make mistakes and work collaboratively to fix them. This work can be humbling, exhilarating, exhausting, and exciting (all at the same time!) and the ability to embrace that challenge with optimism and energy is part of what makes our team so special.

Where You Will Work: This is a part-time in-person position that involves local travel throughout Greater Boston. Sessions take place in school classrooms, camps, playgrounds, backyards, museums, and other places where natural play takes place. On a given day, you may spend all day at one school or camp, or you may travel for several play sessions in multiple playgrounds or yards around the Boston-area.

Some of our students also have remote sessions, which you may have an opportunity to participate in as well. You may also have meetings and tasks such as documentation that are done remotely during the week, too.

Schedule: This is a part-time in-person position with hours available for 2-5 days/week mainly during the school day.

About Learning Seeds: Learning Seeds is an educator-led, technology-driven Social Benefit Company laser focused on social and emotional learning for children aged two to five-years-old. Our multidisciplinary education team provides one-to-one support in natural environments (e.g, schools, camps, and playgrounds) based on our highly effective methodology for setting children up for positive play practice with peers. Our direct service work with children also informs our EdTech software platform, a scalable tool for supporting teachers and paraprofessionals in addressing social, emotional, behavioral and sensory challenges.
