Job description
We are looking for an experienced Service Manager to join the team at C&C Lift Truck. The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of the forklift/heavy material handling industry. They will assume responsibility for operations, financial performance, morale, and any growth initiatives. This individual will be responsible for planning, directing, and implementing a service program that meets the highest industry standards and exceeds our customers’ expectations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Establish operational goals and objectives for the Service Department that will obtain maximum work efficiency and meet or exceed any growth initiatives.
- Effectively communicate updates to Owner and other leadership members on a regular basis and maintain communication across the departments.
- Meet with all service employees on a regular basis to review progress, address any work process issues or customer concerns.
- Manage work schedules which include vacations, lunch breaks, overtime, staffing needs, so that the department runs efficiently.
- Deliver exceptional customer service by ensuring all shop repairs, including lead times, next steps, and schedules have been communicated to the customer in a timely manner.
- Develop and implement service processes that track equipment deliveries, repairs, and planned maintenance.
- Ensure work is prioritized, scheduled and inventory maintained so that employees have the proper tools and parts to complete assigned jobs.
- Ensure all work vehicles are maintained properly, cleaned, and are safe for use by our employees.
- Oversee the shop safety, including but not limited to meetings, documentation, hazard correction, accident investigation, and compliance with all OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory agencies.
- Exercise appropriate expense controls and billing activity to maintain maximum profits in accordance with mutually determined goals.
- Coordinate with the Sales and Rental Departments regarding the repair and delivery of sold or rented equipment.
- Meet with the Parts Department on a weekly basis to discuss upcoming requirements and ensure a timely delivery of parts.
- Provide training to new and current employees regularly; including but not limited to safety programs, instruction manuals, equipment, and product technology.
- Supervise preparation of required documentation; including but not limited to, quotes, work orders, parts lists, timecards, warranty claims, hazardous waste manifests, and management reports.
- Interview, hire and terminate shop personnel under the direction of Owner.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Five to seven (5-7) years of industry experience in material handling/forklifts and a minimum of three (3) years supervisory experience.
- Leadership ability.
- Ability to exercise judgment and work independently.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Ability to handle difficult customer situations.
- Team building skills.
- Demonstrated consistency, accuracy, and follow-through.
- Ability to meet work hour demands as needed.
- Microsoft Office.
- Valid driver’s license.
