Department Overview
PG&E’s Information Technology (IT) organization is comprised of various unified departments which collaborate effectively in order to deliver high quality technology solutions.
The IT Data, Analytics, & Insights organization is an enterprise team that is responsible for working collaboratively across various lines of business (e.g., Gas Operations, Electric Operations, Safety, Energy Procurement, etc.) and is focused on unlocking the value of PG&E’s data to support the company’s Wildfire Safety Program and True North Strategy. As part of that focus, we focus on delivering data and AI/ML centric products to support these initiatives. Some of the products that are being delivered include Remote Inspections, AI Enabled Inspections, Vegetation Management through LiDAR capabilities, Transmission Line Asset Master, Electric Distribution Asset Master, Asset Risk Modeling, and a Cloud Native Foundational Platform.
A critical part of how we operate is to apply design thinking, work and observe the SAFe Agile development methodology, and co-location. Through these principles, we work as product teams to help deliver a valuable product to our business.
Current and past projects include:
Predicting electric distribution equipment failure before it occurs allowing for proactive maintenance
Selection and scoping of one of the largest PG&E’s programs, the 10k miles Undergrounding
Undergrounding Optimizing non-wires alternative resource portfolios, including location and resource adequacy considerations
Analyzing customer demographic, program participation, and SmartMeter interval data to build program targeted propensity models
Assessing the impact and viability of grid edge technologies and distributed energy resources
Position Summary
We have an opening for a full time Technical Product Manager to facilitate and enable data driven decision making efforts. In this role you will work as part of cross functional teams, including developers, data scientists, technology experts, and subject matter experts to develop data driven solutions. Through a focus on iterative development, clear communications, and facilitative leadership this role will help the team continue its history of success. Qualified candidates will have a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of the utility industry and gain a comprehensive view of the nation’s most advanced smart grid. It is the perfect role for someone who would like to continue to build upon their professional experience and help advance PG&E’s sustainability goals.
This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and Oakland, CA approximately 1 - 2 days per week and/or based on business needs.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.
A reasonable salary range is:
Bay Area Minimum: $144,000.00
Bay Area Maximum: $244,000.00
OR
California Minimum: $137,000.00
California Maximum: $232,000.00
Job Responsibilities
Leads complex or major products with high corporate or functional priority.
Develops and drives clear product vision, strategy, and roadmap in partnership with Business Sponsors and Owners
Transforms product strategy into well-articulated business requirements, as well as using qualitative and quantitative data effectively to inform product direction and prioritization.
Coordinate and conduct SAFe Agile events and cycles as appropriate for the project
Owns end-to-end feature delivery, including working with user experience on prototypes, creating and prioritizing user stories, analyzing user data to drive decision making and documenting delivery of releases.
Solve and document roadblocks the project team faces as part of continuous improvement efforts
Analyzes work plan and schedules to reallocate resources and establishes team to deliver.
Provides product feedback and customer insight to support product development.
Conduct user testing sessions as part of an iterative development process
Identifies the appropriate customer audience, their preferred communication channels, and potential customer response benchmarks.
Support the development of external communications explaining PG&E’s analytical capabilities, current project portfolio, vision for the future, and relevant policy positions
Work with leadership to continually improve analytics at PG&E via demonstrations, mentoring, disseminating best practices, etc.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, with an ability to handle both executive-level discussions as well as functional / technical deep dives.
Leadership through influence rather than organization structures. Proven ability to motivate, lead, and collaborate within product team, including cross-functional product development teams and manage interactions.
Qualifications
Minimum:
BA/BS or equivalent experience in appropriate technical discipline (computer science, engineering, applied sciences, mathematics, statistics, econometrics or similar quantitatively focused subject areas) or equivalent experience
Project Management certification (Agile, Lean Six Sigma, PMP, etc.),
8 years of relevant professional experience in managing moderately complex product/software development cycles/projects in advanced analytics, data science, or software development.
