Job Title: Engineering Technician/Construction Inspector
Reports To: G. Kronstein/E. Isabella
General Statement of Duties (Job Posting Purposes):
Performs construction engineering technician services related to earthwork, concrete, asphalt and utility construction for DOT, municipalities, and private sector clients. Responsible for inspecting and reporting on specific aspects of construction works in progress, such as concrete pours, rebar placement, pipe replacements as examples. May be responsible for inspection and sampling of construction materials.

- Performs construction-engineering services related to earthwork, concrete, asphalt and utility construction for DOT, municipalities, and private sector clients.
- Responsible for inspecting and reporting on specific aspects of construction works in progress, such as concrete pours, rebar placement, pipe replacements as examples. May be responsible for inspection and sampling of construction materials.
- Performs computations with formulas, plots data and draws simple curves and graphs.
- Assists engineers in field during soil and materials investigations.
- Ensures that job site tests/observations, including quality control, quality assurance, and verifications are performed in accordance with the standard test/observation methods, project specifications and other contract documents.
- May perform lab testing and observation of soils, concrete and asphalt.
- Performs inspections for construction projects to ensure contractor compliance with state specifications, plans, and/or proposals for roadway work, roadway, and pavement.
- Verifies plan quantities and calculations as bid plans.
- Prepares and maintains project records and reports.
- May notify the Contractor or the Project Engineer of non-conforming work.
Experience Requirements:
- Entry Level to Intermediate. Preferred: Two to three years of experience and familiar with highway construction specification and have previous field experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of engineering, construction, testing and inspection principles.
- Knowledge of materials and lab testing. Knowledge of standard testing and observation methods.
- Knowledge and understanding of construction or engineering services in the states of: OH, IN, PA, WV.
- Skill in performing quality control initiatives.
- Skill in performing testing.
- Skill in lab reporting.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Clean driving record.
- Ability to perform engineering and construction field-testing.
- Ability to write reports and maintain records.
- Ability to perform testing.
- Ability to work in external environment conditions during difficult weather.
- Ability to provide status updates independently.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
- Technical school or Community college graduate. Preferred: Associate Degree with 2 years of additional related work experience or Bachelor’s Degree or Certification in related field.
Other:
- ACI Grade I/WACEL Concrete/VDOT Concrete, VDOT Soil, VDOT Asphalt, WZTC (preferred but not required)
Physical Requirements:
- Primary work location is in the field and will require candidate to stand for extended periods. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
