TITLE: Assistant Professor of Computer Science in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence DEPARTMENT: College of Agriculture, Community, and the Sciences REPORTS TO: Chair of the School of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics  EFFECTIVE DATE: TBD EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-time EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Exempt PRINCIPAL PURPOSE OF JOB: The Assistant Professor in Computer Science in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the School of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics is a 9-month non-tenure track position in Computer Science at Kentucky State University. The successful candidate will have earned a degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education in Computer Science with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in Computer Science and a strong background in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Deep Learning, and Databases. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and possibly some graduate courses, serve as an academic advisor, participate in curriculum development, serve on institutional committees, as well as area field instructional, mentor students in research projects, and service-related duties as assigned. A strong commitment to diversity is essential.   SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:  The Assistant Professor in Computer Science in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a 9-month non-tenure track position who will have a strong background in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Deep Learning, and Database. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and possibly some graduate courses, serve as an academic advisor, participate in curriculum development, serve on institutional committees, mentor students in research projects, and other duties as assigned. A strong commitment to diversity is essential. Priority will be given to candidates with proven prior university teaching experience implementing cutting-edge instructional technologies to promote student problem-solving skills within campus laboratory and BlackBoard distance learning environments. The successful candidate is expected to help recruitment of potential Computer Science students, collaborate with colleagues, assist in curriculum development, and support the HBCU mission.   ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and possibly some graduate courses, including, but not limited to, Data Sciences, Artificial Intelligence, Deep Learning, and Database development.Assist in advising and mentoring students.Participate in curriculum development and review.Serve on committees for university, stakeholder groups, and professional associations.Mentor graduate and undergraduate students engaged in applied research projects.Although this is primarily a teaching position, the candidate is expected to develop research proposals, conduct research, analyze research results, and publish results in the area of Computer Sciences.The successful candidate must have a graduate degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education in Computer Science with a strong background in Network Engineering and Cybersecurity, with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in Computer Science.Other duties as assigned. OTHER DUTIES: Perform other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: A Ph.D. degree is preferred but will consider a Master’s in Computer Science or a related field. A strong background in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Deep Learning, and Database development is desired.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :Basic office and classroom activities.
