Job description
Willow Structural Engineer
Location: Houston, TX
Position Summary: The Willow Structural Engineer will be part of the Willow Engineering Team, reporting to the Willow Engineering Manager. This role focuses primarily on ensuring that the structural design requirements for the project are met, and that the design is in accordance with Willow Engineering specifications, company criteria, and all regulatory standards.
This position is located at the primary facilities engineering contractor office in Houston for the remainder of 2024. Following issuance of primary structural steel packages, and beginning of structural fabrication, this position may relocate to the fabrication yard in Ingleside, TX to provide technical support during fabrication of 13 sealift modules, NTE 3200 short tons, to depart summer of 2027 by barge transport to Alaska. Significant travel and/or relocation to fabrication yard is required to support structural fabrication beginning in 2025.
Key Responsibilities: - Provide technical guidance and day-to-day contact with structural engineering team to help with design development and problem solving.
- Understand the project schedule and key milestones to provide technical assistance at the appropriate time and help prioritize contractor work.
- Accept, comment and review deliverables, including drawings, structural relevant calculations performed by the engineering contractor(s) and vendors.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, company criteria, and Willow engineering standards.
- Attend 3D model reviews, work with Navisworks for individual reviews of working models
- Review and provide guidance on acceptance of Willow s Specification Deviation Request (SDR) and Technical Clarification (TQ) from contractors and vendors in consultation with AKBU Structural TA.
- Work collaboratively with other Willow discipline engineers, the Willow project team, and the AKBU Technical authority to resolve issues
- Enforce Willow Structural specifications to reduce engineering or construction requests to deviate from applicable specifications.
- Provide inputs to procurement processes and evaluate quotes for structural components as needed.
- Participate in relevant Factory Acceptance Tests and site visits as required.
- Perform heavy lift reviews and provide recommendations for lifting best practices for construction and transportation of modules or structural components
- Provide input and make recommendations in constructability reviews for modular construction and fabrication.
Qualification Requirements:
Basic / Required:
- Bachelor s degree or higher in Engineering or related field or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of structural design experience in oil & gas industry
- In depth knowledge of relevant industry codes and standards including AISC, ASCE, and AWS codes
- High awareness of safe working practices in the design, fabrication, installation, and commissioning phases of oil & gas facilities
- High level of understanding of modular construction for process facilities
- Highly competent interpersonal and influencing skills to tactfully manage ambiguity and conflict, and ultimately resolve issues and reach decisions that are in the best interest of the project
- Strong multi-tasking skills with ability to manage multiple ongoing priorities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
Preferred:
- Professional Engineering License
- Previous arctic engineering experience with a demonstrated understanding of low temperature steel requirements for arctic conditions.
- Demonstrated performance as part of a major project team, interfacing with project leadership and other project stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a multi-discipline, multi-function project environment with numerous contract packages
- Takes ownership of actions and follows through on commitments
- Drives thoughtful and pragmatic change, encourages innovative thinking and continuous improvement, and models adaptability through resourcefulness, flexibility, and positivity
