Grade 12 Hiring Range: $20/hr. - $22/hr. Minors at $19.97/hr.

 

Tell me about this job!

In this role, you will guide elementary age participants through sports, arts, STEM, and other hands-on learning activities at a Y Before and After-School Enrichment (BASE) program which is designed to provide a safe and caring place for students outside of the classroom. You will help teach teamwork and social emotional learning to kids as they grow and learn all while encouraging skill building, creative exploration, physical activity, and most of all, fun.

*This is a Part-Time Onsite Position.

Flexible weekday/weekend availability
Morning Shift: 6:45am to 9:15 am

What you'll get from working at The Y

MMR Vaccination Required : Licensed School Age Programs require Mumps, Measles and Rhubella immunization in accordance with Department of Children, Youth and Family requirments. This task is assigned as part of onboarding tasks. 

What you'll be doing

  1. Implements culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate activities within the curriculum in accordance with the Youth Development goals of the YMCA.
  2. Supervises a group of children to ensure their health and safety and to provide for a positive experience for each child.
  3. May provide guidance to staff/volunteers overseeing the activities of groups of children.
  4. Professionally communicates day-to-day, confidential and evaluative information with parents/guardians.
  5. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures.
  6. Assists in maintaining developmentally appropriate site including appearance, décor and cleanliness of site.
  7. May prepare and serve snacks. Cleans snack area.
  8. Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.
  9. Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.

What we're looking for in an applicant

  1. 16 years of age or older, 18 or older is preferred.
  2. 1-2 years’ experience with children; camps, childcare, tutoring, or nannying.
  3. Ability to model and demonstrate Y values: caring, respect, responsibility and honesty.
  4. Experience planning and implementing group activities.
  5. TB Test by Mantoux method.*
  6. Completion of minimum STARS required training, CPR/First Aid Training*
  7. Cleared Portable Background Check in the statewide registry MERIT.**
    *At hire, or earliest possible training (but no later than 30 days after employment.)
    ** At hire, or during onboarding for position.

Preferred Education/Experience

  1. Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.).
  2. Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
  3. High school diploma or the equivalent of one.
