Job Description
***This position is part-time 20 hrs a week*****
I. General Summary
The Research Administrative Coordinator in the Department of Surgery primarily provides assistance and administrative coordination for the Signatory Official for Research at UMMC Midtown Campus and the UMMC Midtown Campus Clinical Research Committee. The coordinator must be able to function with minimal supervision, setting priorities based on hospital regulatory requirements, research committee deadlines, and physician schedules. The position regularly handles matters of a highly confidential or sensitive nature that requires exercising proper discretion.
II. Principal Responsibilities and Tasks
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. These are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.
* Serves as the principal contact and coordinator for the UMMC Midtown Campus Research Committee.
* Updates Research Committee policies. Gathers, reviews and assesses the completeness of applications to conduct clinical research at UMM Midtown Campus.
* Prepares and distributes materials for review by the Research Committee at its monthly meetings. Notifies appropriate parties of any changes in scheduling
Qualifications
III. Education and Experience
* Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business or other related field from an accredited university.
* Minimum two years of experience in administrative office support is required.
* Preferred experience in an academic or research setting
IV. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* Highly effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills to communicate effectively with all levels hospital staff, patients, visitors, and levels of staff.
* Demonstrated computer skills utilizing word processing, database management, spreadsheet applications.
V. Contacts:
* Physicians, Clinical research personnel and UM SOM faculty clinical investigators, hospital administration and staff, University and System research administrative staff and leadership, vendors, visitors, patients and their families.
VI. Physical Demands:
* Fast-paced environment with long periods of computer-based work.
VII. Working Conditions:
* Normal office environment in a well-lit and ventilated area.
VIII. Hazards:
* Some contact with patients may be required, otherwise minimal exposure to health or accident hazards.
