What You Will Achieve This role is responsible for leading the Automation Support Team, which is comprised of Process Automation Technicians, Life Safety Automation Technicians, and an Automation Asset Engineer. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting the strategic plans for the Automation Support Department. They must have strong long term planning capabilities and will be required to make decisions from a wholistic perspective. This role will be responsible for fostering a safety centered culture, building a high performing team, and developing individual team members to allow them to reach their full potential.
This role manages all efforts to optimize maintenance and life cycle care for all the Process Automation hardware and software assets for the API Operations (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients), the Site Utility and Environmental Systems as well as the Pilot Plant to secure supply reliability.
In this role the successful candidate will be managing the Automation Asset maintenance programs, Automation Development Systems, Automation Training Systems, Automation Backup Systems and the technical support and Automation Hub provider relations.
This role
collaborates closely with API Automation Engineers, external technology and service providers, API Maintenance personnel and all operational customers.
In addition, there is a strong project management focus.
How You Will Achieve It - Communicating and collaborating with operations, automation engineers, maintenance personnel, technology, and service providers.
- Setup and maintain an automation Asset Life Cycle program.
- Managing and keeping the API Automation Asset Inventory up to date.
- Develop and initiate an automation specific maintenance program.
- Manage the automation assets by embedding assets in EAMS.
- Lead the Obsolescence Management program that defines bridging strategies and upgrade paths.
- Manage the obsolescence automation assets storage and inventory.
- License, Service and Vendor Agreements management.
- Setup and Manage a Knowledge Management System.
- Create Job Aids or CBT Training for automation systems.
- Manage the API L.I.V.E. Training center.
- Manage all technical automation training for the API Automation team.
- Collaborate with automation engineers and Operations to schedule work.
- Manage training and training budget for API Process Automation Group.
- Development of standardized training programs.
- Develop standard work tasks.
- Schedule and assign work tasks to team members.
- Ensure team members have the proper resources to be successful.
- Develop and track Automation Support Group KPI's.
- Ensure equipment failures are corrected at a root cause level.
Qualifications
Must-Have - Applicant must have a High School Diploma (or Equivalent) and 10 years of relevant experience.
- OR an Associate's degree with 8 years of experience.
- OR a Bachelor's with at least 5 years of experience.
- OR Master's Degree with more than 3 years of experience.
- OR a PhD with 0+ years of experience.
- The ideal candidate should have background in cGMP regulations and the practical application of those methodologies to control systems.
- Experience with PLC, SCADA and/or DCS systems and supporting systems.
- Maintenance related background.
- 3+ years of experience leading teams of 10 or more skilled craftspeople.
- 15+ years of experience in the electrical/controls field.
- The ideal candidate should have experience in conducting safety training/orientations.
- Experience with GEMBA and CI initiatives.
Nice-to-Have - Possess State of Michigan Electrical Journeyman License.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $109,400.00 to $182,300.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer's Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 15.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
