The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene, Inc. is seeking one (1) qualified candidate to fill the full-time position of Special Projects Coordinator for the Assistant Commissioner (AC) of the Bureau of Children, Youth & Families (CYF) in the Division of Mental Hygiene at the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH).
Overview of Division / Program
The Bureau of Children, Youth & Families (CYF) within the Division of Mental Hygiene is responsible for planning and monitoring much of NYC's comprehensive network of child and adolescent community mental health services. CYF relies on research and surveillance to guide its decisions around service planning, implementation and evaluation and incorporates a health equity lens into its work. CYF oversees a portfolio of over 100 programs and supports a family-driven, individualized and strength-based approach to care.
To protect and promote the health of all New Yorkers, the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), Bureau of Children, Youth & Families (CYF), has engaged in candid conversations and projects to eliminate health inequities and promote racial equity and social justice within our bureau, within contracted provider agencies and programs, and within the City of New York. Our work has evolved from using cultural competency/awareness language to directly and clearly acknowledging discrimination and racial inequities within government and the public mental health system. We aim to become an anti-racist government bureau and a more collaborative community partner to our contracted provider agencies by supporting neighborhood resilience, community decision making authority, and community ownership. We've started by acknowledging that systemic and structural racism exists in public health and mental health more specifically. Our goal is to address and redress the impact of historical and current discriminatory policies, implicit bias and unjust practices embedded in the mental health system and in our work, decisions, interactions, and priorities.
