Job description

BELIEFS & PRACTICES
1.     The Holy Bible is the inerrant Word of God.
2.     The beliefs set forth in the Baptist Faith & Message 2000.
3.     The Calvary Baptist Church Constitution as updated November 1, 2015.
Calvary’s pastor is expected to hold to these beliefs and to perform his duties based on these precepts.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Calvary Baptist considers its pastor, as a full-time employee, to be the shepherd and spiritual leader of the flock.  Duties include preparing and presenting sermons (Sunday a.m., Sunday p.m., and on Special Occasions, such as Christmas Eve) and leading Wednesday night prayer meeting and Bible Study; visitation of the sick, officiating special occasions (weddings, baptisms, funerals); develop and lead outreach, growth, and ministry programs; provide care and counseling to church (and community) members in crisis situations; and other pastoral duties as they may arise.  The pastor is seen as the administrative leader of the church.

CHARACTERISTICS
As describe in Timothy, Titus, and Peter, the pastor is to be humble, a peacemaker, show integrity (financial and in relationships), upright, slow to anger, and hospitable.
It is desired that the pastor, and his family, be active and recognized in the community (while displaying the characteristics above) to assist in drawing people to the church.   Our pastor will display enthusiasm, infectious positive energy, and a genuine love of people to lead our church to deepen our engagement in our community and at community events (for example Apple Butter Festival, Trunk-or-treat, Christmas parade) to help us make Jesus known in the greater Chapmanville area.  In some sense, the pastor will be Calvary Baptist’s lead salesman based on a genuine calling from God.
Calvary Baptist believes the characteristics and responsibilities noted above can be met by a wide range of candidates.  As such, we feel primarily led to candidates with:
·       -0- to 20 years of experience,
·       at least some seminary training, though a Master’s degree from a qualified seminary would be preferred
The preferred candidate would:
·       incorporate music into the worship service to help prepare the audience for the message,
·       be comfortable with the live-streaming of services to reach those who are unable to attend, yet encourage those who are able to attend in person,
·       encourage members to utilize their spiritual gifts in the church’s ministry programs,
·       be able to work together with church officers to perform / learn the administrative functions of the church.
