Job description

Des Moines University invites nominations and expressions of interest for the position of Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO). Reporting to the president, the CHRO will lead human resources initiatives to support the University's mission and overall strategic plan.

DMU’s state-of-the-art campus in West Des Moines, Iowa, opened in 2023. DMU has 1,500 students across all three colleges.

The Chief Human Resources Officer will have oversight of human resources strategy, processes, policies, and services; specifically in the areas of talent acquisition, benefits administration, performance management, engagement, employee/labor relations, compensation, and training/development. Serving as a collaborative, innovative and trusted partner across the University.

Applicants are required to possess a bachelor's degree, with a preference for a master’s degree. SHRM-SCP certification is required. A minimum of 10 years of HR experience is required, with at least 5 years in a Director or Executive role. Higher education and/or legal affairs experience is preferred. Successful applicants must possess a demonstrated knowledge of current human resources best practices, experience in organizational behavior, employee/labor relations, compensation, benefits administration, performance management, and employee development. Along with a demonstrated understanding and knowledge of employee engagement and talent acquisition.
