Job Summary

Middle Georgia State University (MGA), a Unit of the University System of Georgia (USG), invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Art position on the Macon campus, with an emphasis in 2D Foundations. This position, beginning in Fall 2024, supports our innovative, professionally focused, BA in Applied Art and Design that consists of a studio art core with optional tracks in Graphic Design, Painting, Digital Media, and Film Production. The successful candidate will possess leadership capability with an expansive, progressive vision for foundations education, including the ability to mentor and support lecturers in the foundations area, develop curricula, construct syllabi, and assess learning.

Responsibilities

This position involves teaching a 4/4 course load, and scholarship, all faculty are expected to assist in student recruitment, curriculum development, mentoring, and serving on departmental and university committees. Travel among our campuses will be required as needed. Teaching responsibilities will include day and/or evening classes, online and/or hybrid courses.

Required Qualifications

Required Educational Qualifications

An M.F.A. in Studio Art.

Required Experience

Evidence of professional practice and engagement through exhibition.

Other Required Qualifications

Ability to teach 2-D Foundations Courses in Drawing (observational), 2D Design/Color Theory, Illustration, and Figure Drawing well as intermediate and upper-level courses.

Readiness to teach at the collegiate level with commitment to student engagement.

Readiness to engage in academic and community service.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Experience

Prior successful teaching experience.

Evidence of innovative pedagogical practices.

Experience with online and/or hybrid delivery of coursework.

Other Preferred Qualifications

Technical and conceptual strength in multiple curriculum priorities including drawing, illustration, color, printmaking, sculpture/3D, digital media, photo/lens-based media, and time-based media.

Leadership skills that can help a growing BA in Art.
