Job description

The Montana Department of Agriculture and the Montana Department of Transportation are accepting applications for a combination position of *Pesticide Container Recycling Driver and Highway Maintenance Technician / Seasonal Snowplow Driver,*located in Helena, MT. This is a permanent 40 hour per week position. Position is open until filled with first review of candidates on March 6, 2024. Job Overview: For the Department of Agriculture (DOA), the position operates the pesticide container mobile recycling unit consisting of a large truck and trailer combination, generator, and grinder. The incumbent will travel throughout the state collecting and processing plastic pesticide containers while coordinating with recycling site managers about pick-up dates and times. This is a seasonal position that operates a March - October weather depending. For the Department of Transportation (MDT), the position performs a variety of work as a laborer, lead worker, equipment operator, and truck driver for highway maintenance activities. This includes snow removal, cleaning the right of way, fixing guardrail, repairing fences, signs, and luminaires, traffic control and salt brine production. Must be available for emergency weather conditions and be able to work on weekends and holidays as needed. Season typically begins November and ends in February, depending on weather. Physical and Environmental Demands: DOA – Position requires standing, bending, and stooping repeatedly and for long periods of time. Repeated lifting of up to 50 pounds may be required. Long periods of sitting will result from driving long distances throughout Montana. Job duties performed while wearing personal protective equipment including hearing and eye protection, coveralls, and boots that can sustain pesticides and pesticide residues. MDT - Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions and remain focused and seated for extended periods of time. Must be able to perform moderate physical activity in lifting, carrying, and/or operating the tools and equipment. Minimum Qualifications: * Commercial driving experience or CDL safety driving course certificate. * Experience with operating and maintaining large, heavy equipment. * One (1) year experience driving heavy truck or operating construction equipment. * Basic math, record keeping, computer skills. Special Requirements: * Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL). * Hearing test (paid by the agency). * Physical (paid by the agency). * CPR and First Aid Certification (paid by the agency). * Successful applicants will be required to sign a release form which authorizes the Department to obtain the applicant’s permanent driving records.
