Job description

Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain a range of equipment including Material Handlers, bobcats, dozers, man lifts, trackhoes, front-end loaders, and conveyer devices.
- Transload cargo between trucks, rail, and barges.
- Assist with the application and removal of barge covers and perform general rigging as required.
- Perform pre-job inspections and carry out preventive and periodic maintenance on all assigned equipment.
- Act as a signalman for other equipment operators and crane operators as needed.
- Support all dock, rail, and terminal operations when necessary.
- Conduct quality inspections of various cargoes as requested by the terminal supervisor.
- Report all incidents through the company’s reporting protocol.
- Support and promote company safety initiatives.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of heavy equipment experience in a maritime/ industrial environment (preferred).
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
- Prior experience in a similar position in an industrial setting (preferred).
- Experience in cargo transportation (preferred).
- Ability to safely operate assigned equipment.
- Ability to operate heavy equipment within a confined space.
- Thorough understanding of transloading operation, cargo handling, and maintenance programs.
- Proficiency in clerical skills and record keeping.
- Knowledge of personnel safety programs.
- Proficiency in assigned equipment and dock operations.
- Physical fitness to perform all essential physical demands of this job safely.
- Demonstrated safe work practices, history, and leadership ability.
- Team player with a commitment to customer service.
- Must comply with all operational directives and company policies.
- Must have a TWIC Card.
Work Environment
The incumbent will work in all weather conditions ranging from warm/hot-cool/cold as well as occasional rain. The job site will contain light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment, and tools. The physical nature of the work will vary from day to day based on operational needs.
