Maine Program Manager

Trout Unlimited

Location

Portland, ME | United States

Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, self-directed, and capable person to work with Trout Unlimited to lead a comprehensive program aimed at on-the-ground restoration and reconnection, policy, advocacy, and land protection efforts to benefit native salmonid species across Maine. Maine is unique amongst the lower 48 states because it contains the last remaining stronghold for intact native brook trout populations and is the only state that contains wild populations of Atlantic salmon and Arctic charr. The Program Manager will work with state and federal agencies, TU volunteers, and other partners to advance TU's mission in Maine. Though not initially a supervisory position, it is expected to become one as the successful candidate will fundraise and build a team of conservation professionals in Maine. The position location is flexible within the state of Maine.

TU has active projects underway to improve habitat through strategic wood addition and small dam removals ranging from the coast to the mountains. The Program Manager will provide strategic leadership for the Maine program and policies that benefit TU's mission. This position requires an individual who works well with diverse stakeholders, is action oriented, and can problem solve to accomplish restoration work. Competitive candidates for this position will have demonstrated experience with project management and technical abilities related to river restoration, fisheries, ecology, partnership-building, fundraising, and an understanding of policies relevant to coldwater conservation and land protection in Maine. They must have the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders and audiences.

This full-time position reports to the Director of the Northeast Coldwater Habitat Program and will occasionally require evening and weekend hours. This position is eligible to work from home full-time; however, the candidate must reside in Maine.
