Seeking an Intern to work with the Marvel, Star Wars, Avatar, Disney Mickey & Pixar Toy design team to assist on a variety of toy, collectible and souvenir projects! The Intern would help identify toy trends, brainstorm new concepts, develop inspiration boards, and sketch toy ideas. They will assist the Design team throughout the development of a broad range of hardline product categories which will include line reviews, weekly production meetings, sample reviews and final production approvals.
Over the course of the internship, the Intern will be exposed to the daily responsibilities of the Disney Consumer Products Design team. They will learn about the product development process from concept through production working closely with Design but also with cross functional teams – Brand Merchants, Sourcing, Product Integrity, Brand Assurance.
The candidate should be studying in the field of industrial design with solid concepting and sketching skills. The Intern will meet regularly with the manager and be able to work independently on assignments, manage projects, and meet deliverables. They should have excellent organizational skills, communication skills, and interpersonal skills.
The Intern will report to the Sr. Manager, Product Design, Hardlines Disney Mickey and Classics based in Glendale, CA.
What You Will Do
Research current market trends and competitor products to stay updated on industry developments
Develop seasonal trends POVs by category
Monitoring product innovation and market dynamics
Assist the design team in brainstorming and conceptualizing new toy/collectible ideas
Build product concept decks and participate in design reviews by providing input to improve product concepts
Create sketches, drawings, and prototypes to bring product concepts to life
Collaborate with cross functional product development teams to ensure designs meet safety and quality standards
Assistant the Design team throughout the development cycle which will include line reviews, weekly production meetings, sample reviews and final production approvals
Required Qualifications & Skills
Solid knowledge toy categories, particularly figures, playsets, vehicles
Understanding of manufacturing (raw materials, plastic molding, textiles, deco applications, label art)
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Strong product design skills (e.g. 3D product design, technical design, sketching, creative application)
Proficiency in design software solutions (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, 3D CAD tools are a plus and may include: Zbrush, Rhino, Maya, Blender, SolidWorks, etc.)
Passion for Disney brands
Enthusiasm for product design and a passion for sparking our guests’ imaginations
Exhibits ingenuity, creativity, and resourcefulness
Ability to take constructive feedback and iterate on designs

Education
Currently a Senior student or recent graduate (within 6 months) pursuing a degree in Toy Design, Industrial Design, or a related design field

Eligibility Requirements & Program Information
Be enrolled in an accredited college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR must have graduated from a college/university within 6 months OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Professional Internship
Be at least 18 years of age
Have not completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program
Possess unrestricted work authorization

This internship is a hybrid position and requires a working, reliable internet connection as well as a quiet, dedicated workspace
The approximate dates of this internship are June 2024 through January 2025
Fully available from Monday - Friday, 9 AM - 6 PM Pacific Time Zone for the duration of the internship, 40 hours each week
Able to provide own housing for the duration internship program in the Glendale, CA area
Able to provide/have reliable transportation to/from work
