An association that has been in existence for over 100 years and is located in Harrisburg, PA. We are a membership driven organization providing a variety of services to franchised new car, truck and powersport dealers in Pennsylvania. These services are delivered through a family of companies, all of which are focused on providing exemplary customer service.
Seeking an assistant general counsel with a minimum of 3-5 experience practicing law. This is a full-time on-site role for an attorney to be located in Harrisburg, PA. The assistant general counsel will serve as an advisor on all legal matters, guiding company policy to reflect legislative changes and statutory compliance. Association will rely on the assistant general counsel’s expertise to help us protect the interests of our association members and employees, and to further association’s mission and goals.
Objectives
- Develop a thorough understanding of the automotive legal and regulatory landscape in order to assist association members
- Ensure association operates within the law at all times
- Provide expert, strategic legal advice to our management team
- Assess company decisions with an eye toward expanding legal rights and mitigating risk
- Represent association in legal matters and complex matters related to the law, such as public relations and ongoing regulatory compliance
- Update association on pertinent legislative and regulatory changes
Responsibilities
- Write and review contracts and legal documents
- Advise association on legal strategies
- Communicate with outside counsel, members, legislators, and regulators
- Lead negotiations with outside parties
- Maintain a record of company legal documents
- Some limited travel required
Skills and Qualifications
- Comprehensive knowledge of the law, such as corporate, labor, and automotive law
- Exceptional judgment for weighing inputs and evaluating potential courses of action
- First-rate leadership skills
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
- Strategic judgement and excellent problem-solving capabilities
- Juris Doctor Degree from an accredited law school – licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania
Preferred qualifications
- Minimum 3-5 years’ experience as a general counsel or in a comparable legal role
- Demonstrable professionalism, ethics, and integrity
- An ability for anticipating legal issues and potential risk
- Understanding of the financial management of a corporate department
