RSCH DATA ANL 2 (Data Analyst) Department Description
The Road Ecology Center, UC Davis is the leading center in the world on transportation ecology. The REC is housed at the Institute of Transportation Studies (ITS-Davis), the leading Institute of its kind in the world, home to more than 60 affiliated faculty and researchers, and with its affiliated centers, a budget of $20 million. This position will support research across a range of projects in the Road Ecology Center. The initial research agenda will include: 1) collection and analysis of wildlife-vehicle collision data, 2) modeling traffic disturbance (e.g., noise and light from traffic), 3) support web-database development by the Center, and 4) support planning for wildlife crossings in CA.
Job Summary Under direction of the Road Ecology Center Director, the new hire will provide support in a variety of activities related to project coordination, data collection, data management, data analysis, project evaluation design, and grant and report writing. This position will work with the other staff and students in the Center to initiate, manage, conduct, and report on research pertaining to interactions between transportation and natural systems. The position will entail data collection and management for multiple projects, as well as development and maintenance of a database for the associated data. Data collection can include both existing data (e.g., in GIS or spreadsheet format) as well as field work to collect new data. The analyst will conduct basic summary analysis of data that cover topics of, but not limited to wildlife occurrence, wildlife movement, ecosystem disturbance, ecosystem condition. Other tasks could include programming in R, GIS and in web-applications, writing professional reports and translating research to relevant stakeholders (including regulatory agencies and legislators). The position also entails providing logistic and research support in collaboration with other researchers, graduate, and undergraduate students to complete project deliverables.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Education/Experience: - Experience in transportation, environmental science, statistics, math and wildlife-related technologies.
- Background experience/knowledge in environmental policy.
- Experience working with camera traps and other systems for monitoring wildlife.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA): - Proficiency with wildlife and geographic data collection and management.
- Expertise in data management and analysis software (Excel, R, ArcGIS/QGIS).
- Writing, editing, and proofreading skills to produce research reports and papers for publication journals, conference proceedings, etc.
- Computer skills to prepare and deliver project presentations including Excel graphs and tables, PowerPoint slides.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Preferred Education/Experience: - Experience with programming in Java or Python.
- Experience with interactions with stakeholders and in team settings
