Job description
Position: Engineer for Bipolar Plate Design
Status: Full-Time, Salaried
Reports to: Vice President of Research and Development
Position Summary: Engineer for Bipolar Plate Design is responsible for designing and optimizing bipolar plates and manifolds to maximize the performance and efficiency of electrolyzer stacks. This includes conducting simulations, designing prototypes, and working with manufacturing teams to produce final products.
Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position. Days and hours of the work are Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
Essential Functions of the Position
Develop and optimize designs for bipolar plates and manifolds for electrolyzer stacks
Work with the Multiphysics modeling team in to conduct simulations and modeling to evaluate and refine designs
Develop prototypes and perform testing with cross-functional teams
Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure designs can be produced at scale and low cost
Continuously improve designs and processes to increase efficiency and reduce costs
Evaluate methods to mitigate corrosion and work with the materials team and third-parties to develop coatings if necessary
Design and execute experiments with statistically-backed methods
Maintain a strong understanding of industry trends, technologies, and best practices related to electrolyzer stack design
Professional Qualifications:
At least 2 years of experience in designing bipolar plates and manifolds for electrolyzers or fuel cells at a tier-1 company
Proficiency in CAD software and simulation tools such as ANSYS, COMSOL, or similar
Knowledge of metallurgy, materials science, manufacturing processes, and electrochemistry
