Job Description:
Support Principal Investigator(s) in the Preparation of Proposals: - Provides writing and editing support to assist faculty with the preparation of proposals for funding, including writing, editing and creation of graphics and infographics. May provide refinement of the presentation of scientific ideas and edit grant application narratives to communicate a compelling vision/concept.
- Assists faculty with proposal revisions based on comments from peer reviewer and editors and with drafting responses to peer reviewers and editors. Writes, revises, and edits drafts of executive summaries, conclusions, and organizational credentials for grants proposals.
- Develops and maintains other resources to assist faculty in the development of grant applications, such as libraries of boilerplate text for use in applications. Gathers and analyzes data on outreach effectiveness and recommends improvements to extend reach and participation.
- Establish timelines and strategies to accomplish assignments in accordance with internal processes and external deadlines.
Provide Strategic Guidance on Funding Opportunities: - Study Requests for Proposals (RFP) specific to what PIs are pursuing.
- Acquire, maintain, and interpret up-to-date knowledge of funding sources and their submission deadlines.
- Keep abreast of laws, regulations, policies, proposal submission processes, and emerging conditions of both the university and funding agencies relevant to proposal development.
- Provide advice to PIs, administrators, and support staff regarding university, state, and federal rules and sponsoring agency guidelines; refer proposals for review by appropriate compliance committees as needed.
- Assists faculty in using available enterprise-wide resource to locate funding mechanisms.
Provide support to Graduate Students and PIs seeking external funding for scholarship/fellowship awards: - Assist graduate students with building competitive packet for fellowship awards.
- Assist PIs with planning, writing and submission of large-scale proposals for scholarship/fellowship awards such as NSF SFS.
Other: - Investigate award nomination requirements including content, timing, and other documentation necessary for nominations to be successfully submitted to appropriate agencies or organizations in advance of established deadlines.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Expected Salary:
$60,000 - $70,000; commensurate with qualifications and experience
Minimum Requirements:
Master's degree in appropriate area of specialization and two years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor's degree in appropriate area of specialization and four years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Five years of related experience, education/training, OR an advanced/terminal degree in related area plus three years of related experience/training.
- Academic background and experience in selected area of research required, or other applicable academic field as evidenced by an advanced degree in a related field, or equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Experience working in a scientific research environment. Understanding of the role of research and grant funding in a major research university.
- Thorough knowledge and ability to apply all relevant Federal, state, and university regulations, policies, and federal guidance documents.
- Strong oral and written communication skills. In-depth experience writing about science for both technical reviewers and the public as well as writing science proposals for government agencies.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple projects. Ability to complete work and meet established deadlines in an accurate and timely manner, and to manage short and competing deadlines.
- Strong ability to think creatively and independently on concepts requiring advanced analytical skills. Advanced skills analyzing and presenting data.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups to achieve results.
- Strong ability to work collaboratively with internal and external peers, managers, and teams.
- Demonstrated attention to detail to ensure proper and consistent editorial formatting of large grant submissions.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and deliver in a timely fashion.
- High level of proficiency in Adobe, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and various data visualization programs.
