Job description

With numerous programs offering services to people experiencing homelessness, hunger, and poverty in Maine, Preble Street is a dynamic, innovative, and progressive nonprofit organization with nearly 300 staff who work every day to fulfill the agency’s mission. Toward achieving Preble Street’s goals in training and retaining diverse, qualified staff to do the important, mission-driven work of the agency, our HR team is seeking a Training and Staff Development Specialist to support the implementation of comprehensive learning and evaluation strategies.

As a member of the HR team, the Training and Staff Development Specialist will work alongside and under the direction of the Employee Relations and Training Manager and will engage in the coordination, development, and facilitation of all agency training and staff programming. The Training Specialist will be essential in supporting Preble Street’ staff development efforts, with responsibilities including managing the agency’s intern program; implementing and overseeing Preble Street’s Learning Management System; coordinating regular management and HR meetings; conducting exit interviews; and carrying out the successful facilitation of welcoming orientation sessions for new hires with a focus on Preble Street’s culture, practice, policies, and values.

This is a full-time position with a Monday – Friday schedule.

Qualifications

Qualifications for the position include education in a relevant field of study, with experience in social service provision and management; planning and presenting various trainings to adults; or a combination of education and relevant work experience likely to provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully meet the job responsibilities.

Further qualifications include and understanding of the Preble Street mission, and positive regard for individuals experiencing homelessness and/or living in poverty; strong organizational skills and ability to carry out projects and tasks to completion; technical capacity to communicate, document, report and distribute data and information; strong group facilitation, writing, and presentation skills; knowledge of staff management and supervision best practices; proficiency with Microsoft Office products; and commitment to efforts and initiatives to further diversity, equity, and inclusion in our workforce.

Compensation

This is a full-time (40 hour/week) position with an hourly rate of pay of $30/hour. This position will be eligible for the generous full-time paid time off, insurance, and retirement plan benefits, including:
