Job Description
The Radiology / Cardiology / CT Technologist performs diagnostic imaging procedures utilizing various imaging modalities including radiography, fluoroscopy, cardiac catheterization, and computed tomography (CT). This role involves operating specialized equipment, preparing patients for procedures, and ensuring high-quality images are produced for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning in radiology and cardiology departments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct diagnostic imaging procedures, including X-rays, fluoroscopy, angiography, cardiac catheterization, and CT scans, following established protocols and physician orders.
- Prepare patients for procedures, explaining the process, addressing concerns, and ensuring patient comfort and safety throughout the imaging experience.
- Position patients appropriately and apply radiation protection devices as necessary to minimize radiation exposure and ensure image quality.
- Operate and maintain imaging equipment, including radiographic and fluoroscopic units, cardiac catheterization equipment, and CT scanners, ensuring proper functionality and adherence to safety standards.
- Adjust equipment settings and imaging parameters to optimize image quality while minimizing radiation dose and maintaining patient safety.
- Monitor patients during procedures, assessing for any adverse reactions or complications, and promptly notifying physicians or healthcare providers as needed.
- Evaluate images for quality, clarity, and diagnostic value, identifying any artifacts or technical issues that may affect interpretation, and retake images as necessary.
- Collaborate with radiologists, cardiologists, and other healthcare professionals to review imaging findings, provide preliminary observations, and assist in the interpretation of images as needed.
- Maintain accurate documentation of procedures, patient information, and imaging results in electronic health records (EHR) or other documentation systems.
- Participate in quality assurance activities, equipment performance testing, and radiation safety initiatives to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and best practices in medical imaging.
Qualifications:
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Radiologic Technology, Cardiovascular Technology, or a related field from an accredited program.
- Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiography and additional certification in Cardiovascular-Interventional Radiography (CV) and/or Computed Tomography (CT) preferred.
- State licensure or certification as required by the state of practice for radiologic technologists or cardiovascular technologists.
- Minimum of two years of clinical experience in radiology, cardiology, and/or CT imaging, with proficiency in performing a variety of imaging procedures and techniques.
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology relevant to radiology and cardiology imaging, including cardiac anatomy and physiology.
- Proficiency in operating imaging equipment and related technology, including digital radiography systems, fluoroscopic units, cardiac catheterization equipment, and CT scanners.
- Strong technical skills in image acquisition, processing, and manipulation, with the ability to produce high-quality images for diagnostic interpretation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Commitment to patient-centered care, safety, and confidentiality, adhering to ethical standards and regulatory requirements governing medical imaging practice.
- Dedication to ongoing professional development and continuing education, staying current with advances in imaging technology, procedures, and safety practices.
