Faculty Senate invites applications for a Program Manager to oversee the administration of faculty governance activities at the University of Montana. The Faculty Senate Program provides institutional consistency and communication across campus governing bodies, UM faculty, administrators, staff and students, and continuity between UM and Office of the Commissioner of Higher Education. This is an in-person role requiring exceptional organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. Position must maintain professionalism and appropriately adjust to changing personalities and leadership styles while ensuring committees of often busy and frequently distracted faculty stay on track and accomplish tasks. The Program Manager’s priorities are self-directed based on the university’s operating rhythm.

 

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Manage multiple highly complex and wide-ranging projects simultaneously. 
  • Support Registrar's Office and Faculty Senate special projects and initiatives through launch and implementation phases, and ensure successful transitions to their next iteration.
  • Provides administrative and professional support to the Faculty Senate Chair and the chairs and members of various committees under the Faculty Senate.
  • Develop strategic planning documents, procedures, and calendars for the Faculty Senate and its various committees.
  • Serve as curriculum liaison to the Registrar’s Office, Provost’s Office, and the Office of the Commissioner of Higher Education. 
  • Serve as point of contact for faculty, staff, students and administrators regarding functions of the Faculty Senate and related issues, including sensitive student and faculty appeals.
  • Manage the operations and processes of the Curriculum Management System (Courseleaf CIM).
  • Coordinate and manage the curriculum review process, the evaluation of the administration, faculty senate elections, center and program review, and committee and service award nominations.
  • Manage the office budget; monitor and reconcile office expenses; process travel reimbursement and procard charges. 
  • Maintain and order office supplies, computers, and accessories.
  • Conduct consistent and meticulous analysis of operating practices, including the establishment, revision and implementation of administrative policies, procedures, record-keeping systems and reference manuals.

Minimum Required Experience

  • High school diploma and four (4) years professional experience within a complex work environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communication, Business or related field.
  • Experience working in a higher education setting.

 

About Faculty Senate and UM

The Faculty Senate is at the center of faculty participation in the shared governance of the University. The Senate reviews, debates, and votes on issues pertaining to the academic welfare of the University of Montana in consultation and cooperation with the President and his/her administration. The President and the Vice Presidents are advisory / ex-officio to the Faculty Senate. The Senate makes recommendations regarding the general requirements for admission and graduation from the University of Montana. It reviews and approves curriculum changes including general education requirements, new courses, majors, minors, certificates, or options, program modifications and program moves; honorary and post-humus degrees subject to Board of Regents regulations; and academic policies.

Various standing committees of the Senate review academic matters in detail and make recommendations to the Senate. The Faculty Senate Articles and Bylaws determine the representation of the Senate and committee structure. Administration of the Faculty Senate’s Office Budget falls under the Provost’s Office. The Registrar has an advisory/ ex-officio relationship to the Faculty Senate and its standing committees. The Vice Provost is advisory/ ex-officio member of Academic Standards and Curriculum Review Committee (ASCRC), the General Education and Writing Committees, as well as Graduate Council. The Vice President of Research and Creative Scholarship is advisory/ ex-officio to Graduate Council and the Dean of the Library is advisory / ex-officio to the University Library Committee.

Position Details

Position Title: Program Manager

Position Number: 063420

Department: Faculty Senate

Work Schedule: Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00, 12 months/year.

Salary: $20.734/hr Current employee’s rate of pay for this position will be determined by the staff compensation plan and will minimally be this posted salary. For questions and details regarding the staff compensation plan , email the Compensation Department .

Probationary Period: Six months minimum
