Job description

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Function) The senior engineer performs engineering tasks and assignments necessary to achieve commissioning and testing of substation devices and promote compliance with bulk electric system and state regulatory requirements. Assignments include evaluation of testing and commissioning requirements, generation and evaluation of testing procedures and metrics, utilization of information to assess and improve operational activities and development of programs that facilitate the implementation of substation testing and commissioning standards. Typical Duties Review and interpret engineering documentation and update inventory of substation devices requiring maintenance, testing, and commissioning. Determine the scope of maintenance, testing and commissioning of devices in the inventory. Support standardized testing and commissioning procedures for all substation devices to meet industry standards and internal best practice criteria. (30%) Support implementation of automated testing procedures software and asset management and testing results tracking software. Create test plans for system protection and control devices in support of the Substation Compliance Program. Review and interpret results for conformance with our Substation Compliance Program. (30%) Work with local substation operations groups to plan and schedule testing and commissioning. (20%) Encourage the interchange of information, ideas and techniques related to substation testing and commissioning. Provide input on proposed and adopted substation standards. (10%) Assist the substation compliance and standards group with the creation of compliance plans as assigned. (10%) Demonstration of knowledge and understanding of human performance improvement techniques. This is a multi-level req Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution. 1-3 years’ industry experience for an Engineer II. Five years of industry experience as a practicing engineer, and must be a licensed PE. If no PE license then must have eight or more years as a practicing engineer for a Senior Engineer. Effective oral and written communication skills consistent with the ability to present to MEC leadership. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Project management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently. Ability to aggressively and successfully implement and manage all substation testing and commissioning programs, policies, and projects.
