Job Description

A Registered Dietitian credentialed through the Commission of Dietetic Registration (CDR), who nutritionally assess medical-surgical and critically-ill patients admitted to Jersey City Medical Center. They are responsible for utilizing medical nutrition therapy to create a nutritional care plan for hospitalized patients that supports recovery and symptom management upon discharge. The RD also physically assesses patients for sign of mild, moderate or severe malnutrition and provides interventions to slow or reverse the course of malnutrition. The RD is also an active member of the interdisciplinary team that works together to provide optimal health care. Screens and assigns levels of nutritional risk based on hospital established criteria. Responds to nutrition consults in a timely manner according to department policy. Responsible for the nutritional care of all patients on assigned floors; floor assignment includes medical, surgical, pediatric and intensive care units. Develops and implements nutrition care plans for all assigned patients according to a patient s disease state and lifecycle. Evaluates effects of medical nutrition therapy and compliance to dietary prescription according to procedural guidelines for assessment/re-assessment. Followed by the complete documentation (according to department policies) of patient s progress in the electronic medical record (EMR). Provides diet counseling and nutrition education to patients and/or family members regarding their diet. Diet education will cover therapeutic diet education, drug-nutrient interactions, general healthy eating tips and enteral/parental nutrition explanations. This includes providing physical copies of diet to be taken home or using translators/translation line for thorough nutrition education. Appropriately documenting nutrition education provided in EMR. Aids in the maintenance of accurate cardfile records on CBORD. This includes monitoring diet orders, supplements, documentation of nutrition visits and maintenance of correct patient information. Participates in performance evaluation and improvement activities; such as test trays, card file reviews, monitoring transmission errors and other department activities as needed. Oversight of non-licensed staff and nutrition student volunteers. Maintains professional development and competency. Acts as a nutrition support liaison as assigned by the Manager of Clinical Nutrition services with various medical departments. Provides input in menu planning and production methodology. Organize, create and host nutrition education classes for staff or patients, as needed. Works with department to improve and provide good customer service. Adheres to hospital and departmental rules, safety and sanitation principles. Reports violations to designated people. Maintain effective verbal and written communications within the department. On weekends, assumes overall responsibilities for the diet office. Maintains good relationship with other members of Department as well as nursing, pharmacy, EVS, maintenance and other medical/surgical Departments.

Additional Requirements

To qualify you must have a Bachelors Degree, Registered Dietitian through the CDR, 1 year of experience in a clinical setting, Member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Per Diem Hourly Rate: $34.98
