Application for Associate Director of Bioengineering Education & Outreach

The Princeton Bioengineering Initiative (PBI) was recently launched to highlight and enhance trailblazing research at the intersection of human health and society. PBI is evolving rapidly, including a future move into a new building specifically designed for modern bioengineering research. PBI is seeking an Associate Director of Education & Outreach, in the area of bioengineering, who can work closely with faculty and staff to build and support PBI's educational mission, as well as promote interactions with the outside world. In addition, with the anticipated launch of the bioengineering Ph.D program, an essential responsibility of this position will be to lead the PBI teaching mission. As such, we seek an accomplished individual, with a demonstrated record of excellence and leadership, who can develop and implement innovative educational programs, lead, and coordinate multidimensional programs such as summer undergraduate research (e.g. REU). The candidate must have the capacity to help envision and develop new programming, coordinate and grow new interdisciplinary initiatives, and seek broad synergy and impact across related aspects of PBI programming. PRINCIPAL DUTIES: Academic curriculum/programing: *Work collaboratively with Director of the Bioengineering Initiative to create, administer and run academic programming for undergraduates, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows. *Help development and launch a new PhD program in Bioengineering *Help shepherd the development of undergraduate research and educational programming. *Oversight over outreach programs including annual invited lecturer, Bioengineering community day etc. *Help administer and grow postdoctoral fellows program in Bioengineering *Determine appropriate content, size, resources, logistics, and other relevant criteria for such programing. Teaching: *The successful candidate will contribute to the teaching mission of the Bioengineering Initiative by taking a central role in instruction of select bioengineering classes, with the opportunity for developing entire new courses. *Responsibilities may include but are not limited to organization and management of introductory bioengineering teaching laboratories; overseeing the training of teaching assistants; and engaging with the regional and national education communities. *The successful candidate is expected to place the emerging Bioengineering education and outreach programs in context with PBI's priority in the area of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. The Bioengineering Initiative will support the lecturer's efforts with the necessary resources to maximize impact across a broad range of communities and demographics. Advisory Committees: *Organize and lead advisory committees as it relates to PBI funding opportunities and the PBI2 Fellowship applications. *Assist with forming the various committees, gathering feedback, and providing initial review of applications for scientific merit and relevance. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS *Ph.D. in science or engineering (bioengineering preferred) discipline and have a least 10 years of professional experience directing education and/or outreach activities in a university setting. *Strong verbal and written communication, project management and decision-making skills; ability to teach effectively across multiple levels; and experience in developing and managing new projects.
