Job description
The Hennepin County Elections department is seeking to fill a limited duration (temporary) Election Systems Specialist position to assist staff in the administration of 2024 elections. This position consists primarily of election equipment preparation and testing, ballot programming, proofing and logistics support.
The Election Systems Specialist must be non-partisan and be able to provide excellent customer service, use technical and analytical skills, and manage work related to elections operations. The Elections department is looking for an individual interested in election administration and government processes.
Candidates bilingual in English and Somali, Spanish, Oromo, Hmong, American or Universal Sign Language are encouraged to apply. Bilingual candidates who pass a language assessment may qualify for additional bilingual pay.

Location and hours: This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at 625 Building (625 4th Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55415) and remote as job duties require. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., with some flexibility. Occasional mandatory overtime will be required.
While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.
New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022, to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment. About the position type :

In this position, you will: - Assist with testing, training, troubleshooting, and documentation updates for elections equipment.
- Support equipment pilot projects including assistive voting technology and ballot on demand technology.
- Assist with ballot programming, proofing, testing, and logistics.
- Process candidate filings, polling place changes, statewide voter registration system access and account management.
- Assist with developing training for local election clerks.
Need to have: - One of the following:
- Four or more years of experience in general administrative work relating to the management of departmental/organizational operations or in a specialty area appropriate to the position .
- Bachelor's degree or higher in public administration, business administration, political science, or other field appropriate to the position.
Nice to have: - Experience:
- Administering elections in Minnesota.
- Communicating technical information to internal and external partners.
- Managing confidential files and information.
- Using the Statewide Voter Registration System (SVRS), ePulse, Meraki Management, or OmniBallot Tablet software.
- Troubleshooting technology-based issues while working remotely with customers of different levels of expertise.
- Ability to:
- Handle complex and simultaneous tasks by setting priorities to meet deadlines.
- Work collaboratively with a diverse group of team members and internal and external partners.
- Manage inventory of elections equipment.
- Work with great attention to detail.
- Understand basic elections policy and procedures.
- Provide non-partisan, impartial and excellent customer service.
- Estimate potential challenges and risks and generate solutions.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
About the department: Hennepin County Elections works with partners at the federal, state, and local level to provide voting services to over one million eligible county residents in over 400 polling places throughout the county. Program areas include voter registration, absentee voting, voter education and engagement, local election clerk training, voting technology, election day operations, results reporting and certification, recounts and audits, candidate filing, campaign finance reporting, violation investigations, and elections data stewardship.
