Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

Director, Software Engineering (Tempe, AZ)

Iridium Satellite, LLC seeks a Director, Software Engineering (Tempe, AZ) to manage strategic relationships between internal IT resources, business units, end users, vendors, and partner organizations. Foster and develop a highly effective, teamwork environment where accountability, and clear effective communication is demonstrated. Work closely with lines of business, peers and executive leadership, play key role in the growth of the department and organization. Directly implement initiatives for new software products, billing system and revenue management applications. Organize software update process for existing billing system applications and coordinate the roll-out of software releases, ensuring adherence to specifications, deadlines, and budgets. Ensure product deliveries meet business requirements and are delivered in a complete and well-packaged manner for the operations team to deploy and operate. Hold accountability for resolution of significant risks and issues to leadership and implementation of lessons learned. Ensure team resources have a defined training plan to provide career growth, new skills, as well as provide properly trained resources to execute on long term roadmap. Manage 7 direct reports holding the titles of 1 Manager, 3 Senior Software Engineers, and 3 Software Engineers. 20% domestic travel and 20% international travel required. Local telecommuting permitted up to 2 days per week.

JOB REQUIREMENTS :

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, or a related field and 14 years of experience in software development and engineering. Must have the following experience: Design and Implementation of BSS/OSS systems Oracle BRM, Netcracker (Formerly Convergys) or similar systems; Leading mid to large size teams, onsite/offshore models, and working on multiple projects; Providing Technical leadership to the team; Requirements Analysis, Projects Estimates; System design and architecture; Experience in Telecom Billing; and experience in software development of C, C++, Unix, Perl and other scripting languages. 20% domestic travel and 20% international travel required.

Work Environment:

This position primarily works in the company office or in a home office. The position is largely sedentary with the majority of the position sitting in a chair and working with a computer. The role uses basic office equipment including a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse, and printer.
