Job description

The Youth and Young Adult Director is a faithful Catholic who demonstrates a love and zeal for the Church's mission; who has a capacity and desire for evangelization; who has a desire to form intentional disciples after the heart of Jesus Christ; who has good communication and organizational skills; and who has experience in parish pastoral ministry. Job Function: To direct and coordinate the formation program for middle school and high school parishioners, their families, the preparation of the Sacrament of Confirmation, and ministry to young adults. Performance Responsibilities: Develop a comprehensive formation program for middle and high school age parishioners; Grades 6-8 and Grades 9-12. Recruit, train, and support ministry core teams. Develop youth group curriculum for formation nights; service nights; formation in prayer, liturgical formation, and retreats; Grow disciples with two annual retreats for each age group and other opportunities for personal encounter with Christ; Support, encourage, and foster the discernment of vocations. Coordinate parish participation in Diocesan and National events, i.e. Totus Tuus Summer Camps, Steubenville Summer Youth Rally, Diocesan Youth Rallies, and World Youth Day. Coordinate the Safe Environment Training for students and catechists. Recruit, train and support for catechists for Core Team Provide resources, retreats and workshops; Participation in weekly parish staff and core team meetings; Relational Ministry: Attendance and interest in youth events in the public and Catholic middle and high schools. To include drama, speech, athletic events; Connect with youth through social media; Maintain a section of parish website dedicated to youth activities and interests; Connect with students at St Thomas More Middle School and High School; Connect with Students at local public middles schools and public high school. Develop a program for young adult parishioners. Grow disciples through weekly get together, Alpha groups, and Connect groups; Working with Diocese, develop a city-wide Theology on Tap event monthly; Provide resources, retreats and workshops for young adults. Support, encourage, and foster the discernment of vocations. Cooperate with all Cathedral priests and staff. Prepare a yearly budget proposal to submit to Parish Administrator; Collaborate with staff in other parish ministries and diocesan parishes; Attendance at staff meetings; Attendance at diocesan meetings that pertain to youth and young adult ministry; Provides for his/her own spiritual and professional growth. Maintains a current level of knowledge and skills required to function as youth and young adult pastoral minister. Accomplished through reading appropriate materials and participating in training opportunities and/or workshops as approved and as appropriate. Maintains an atmosphere of hospitality and charity at all times. Speaks positively about the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Lives and promotes the vision and mission of Cathedral parish, "to encounter Jesus, then share Jesus with others". Maintain confidentiality in matters pertaining to office life and parish ministry Attend to the special needs of middle and high school age parishioners and parents in and outside the programs offered in the parish
