The Burlington School District is seeking bilingual individuals in one or more of the following languages: Kirundi, Swahili, Spanish Nepali, Somali, or Maay Maay to serve as an on-call interpreter and or translator. This position supports Multilingual students and their families as well as school personnel to assist students in achieving success in the U.S. education system by providing interpretation or translation, as needed. QUALIFICATIONS: Must be fluent and literate in native language as well as English language in order to provide translation and interpreting services. Must be familiar with the US education system as well as education in the native culture. Must be able to communicate effectively and respectfully with students, parents, and the school community, using strong cross cultural and interpersonal skills. Professional, courteous behavior expected. Basic knowledge of computers preferred, but not required. Experience as a professional interpreter would be an asset, but is not required.
