About the Department:

The George Mason University Office of Advancement and Alumni Relations, invites qualified candidates to apply for a part-time Social Media Assistant position. The University Advancement and Alumni Relations division is a comprehensive development and alumni relations enterprise with a staff complement of approximately 135 full-time employees. Functional units within Advancement and Alumni Relations include development/fundraising, alumni relations, stewardship and donor relations, advancement communications, special events, gift processing, research, prospect management, gift planning, corporate and foundation relations, information systems and management, and infrastructure services.

About the Position:

Manage the alumni relations social media accounts and support the alumni relations team in developing and producing video, photography, and graphic content to drive brand awareness, engagement, and advocacy for these channels on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn. Engage with followers when appropriate, and monitor conversations on various social media channels.  

Responsibilities:

• Identify and communicate with influencers, partners, board, and donors as identified by leadership;
• Keep your pulse on the latest emerging platform trends and propose ideas to engage Mason alumnus;
• Work together with the alumni relations team to understand performance and growth metrics in order to adjust for creative optimizing posts; and
• Participate in brainstorms and content ideation. 

Required Qualifications:

• A passion for social media, understanding of platforms and audiences, and knowledge of best practices;
• Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite, Adobe Premier, SEM Rush, Canva, and social media platforms;
• Digital video and photography skills;
• Experience creating strong, engaging content that is inclusive and reflects the population that Mason serves. Strong candidates will have previous experience assisting with creating video content and social media campaigns;
• Excellent written, verbal, and professional communication skills;
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively;
• Strong organizational and time management skills to meet deadlines;
• Demonstrated excellence in writing, proofreading, and editing;
• Excellent research, organizational, and time management skills;
• Strong listening and communication skills;
• Ability to multitask while preserving attention to detail;
• Ability to maintain a neutral presence;
• Experience managing social channels and digital communities; and
• Ability to participate in on-campus events occurring on evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Video editing experience; and
• Photography experience.
