Job description

Based in Portland, Maine, and offering services statewide, Preble Street’s low-barrier, client-centered programs provide casework, housing, shelter, food, and other essential services to people in our community experiencing homelessness, hunger, and poverty, while advocating for long-term solutions to these problems.

An Advocacy Outreach Team Leader position is available with Preble Street to directly support Homeless Voices for Justice (HVJ) and the Food Justice Coalition (FJC), both grassroots organizations working for social change with, and on behalf of, people with lived experience of homelessness and poverty. The Team Leader will be an active liaison and work closely with the Advocacy Director and Supervisor to develop and implement strategic advocacy campaigns and coalitions in promoting positive policy change at the local, state, and federal levels. This position will also provide comprehensive administrative, data management, and grant writing support to the Advocacy team while actively collaborating with staff and community providers in timely and strategic delivery of organizing efforts.

The regular schedule for this full-time position is Monday – Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm schedule, with some work during evenings and weekends occasionally required.

Job Requirements

The desired combination of education and relevant experience for this position includes a bachelor’s degree in social work, public administration, social sciences, or related field of study, and experience working in community organizing and advocacy on poverty-related issues, or a comparable combination of education, training, and experience.
