Job description

The Adirondack Daily Enterprise and the weekly Lake Placid News in northern New York are looking for a full-time reporter to join our award-winning newsroom in Saranac Lake to produce quality and impactful community journalism. The reporter will be responsible for covering news and features for the ADE in Tupper Lake – including local government, public schools and businesses – and news and features for the LPN in Lake Placid, home of the 1932 and 1980 Olympic Winter Games. There is no reporter position in the world like this one. The reporter will cover a wide variety of news, from the local and state levels to outdoor recreation and environmental issues inside the 6-million-acre Adirondack Park, the largest publicly protected area in the contiguous United States. Plus, this is an opportunity to cover a region that is firmly rooted in the Olympic movement. Lake Placid has a U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center and routinely hosts international sporting events, such as World Cups for luge, bobsled/skeleton and ski jumping. And U.S. Olympic luge, bobsled, skeleton, biathlon, ski jumping and Nordic combined teams train here. Applicants should be curious and community minded and demonstrate skill in writing and photography. This is an entry-level position that includes mentorship from editors with decades of community journalism experience. Benefits include health and dental insurance, 401k, vacation and sick time. Pay range is $16.00 to $16.50/hour, depending on experience. Email a resume, references and writing/photography samples to Editor/Publisher Andy Flynn at [email protected] .
