Job description

Teachers at Moravian Academy are dedicated to creating vibrant classroom communities that inspire students to achieve academic excellence, develop a strong sense of character, and act responsibly in a changing world. Swain Campus teachers meet regularly and work collaboratively within discipline and across divisions and are actively involved in the life of the school outside their classrooms.

Primary Responsibilities

• Teach and manage all aspects of the day-to-day classroom operations
• Design and implement innovative, hands-on instructional methods to meet the needs of diverse learners’ academic, social and emotional growth
• Conduct assessments and prepare the reporting of students’ progress and performance
• Attend divisional, full-faculty, and parent meetings as needed
• Maintain a well-managed, mutually respectful, and welcoming classroom environment
• Communicate and collaborate effectively with fellow faculty members, staff, and administrators

Qualifications

• Passion for teaching science and working with middle school-age children
• Experience teaching intermediate or middle school-aged students
• Training in research-based best practices and current teaching methods
• Experience applying Responsive Classroom techniques to build a positive classroom environment and rapport with all students
• Experience running a lab-based, hands-on science classroom
• Background teaching experience or coursework in chemistry and physics a must
• Committed to diversity and inclusion

Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related scientific field
