About The Job
Dudek is seeking an early to mid-level Architectural Historian to work as part of a team of cultural resources specialists (i.e., architectural historians, and archaeologists) to assist with historic resource surveys, evaluations, and related technical documents in compliance with CEQA, NEPA, and Section 106 of the NHPA. The ideal candidate has excellent oral and written communication skills. Competitive wages are based on the level of education and experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Research and write historic context statements.
- Evaluate properties in accordance with local, state, and national criteria and integrity requirements on State of California DPR forms.
- Assess impacts and effects on historical resources/properties and prepare defensible compliance documentation for CEQA and Section 106
- Promote a culture of teamwork, engagement, quality service, and customer satisfaction for our clients.
- Assist in fostering client connections through existing client relationships and proactive business development in the candidate’s areas of strength and interest, working with others to anticipate and pursue work.
- Enhance Dudek’s professional reputation and demonstrate the ability to be creative and innovative with work tasks while representing Dudek in a professional manner.
- Work with project team members to track commitments to support a variety of projects.
- Incorporate and respond to feedback on work products in a professional manner.
- Able to perform a task and add the knowledge from completing that task as a skill. The skill is then acquired to the extent that the next time the task is requested or assigned, it requires only minimal supervision, instruction, or guidance.
- Able to perform basic fieldwork alone or with other architectural historians and/or archaeologists.
- Able to build on the knowledge and acquire skills to complete historic context writing and technical report writing tasks with minimal instruction or supervision. Comfortable interacting with clients and project managers.
- Able to work within fixed budgets and produce deliverables within project schedules and task timelines.
- Able to navigate, coordinate, and conduct online research through various platforms and databases, as well as in-person research at libraries and archival facilities.
- Able to work cooperatively in a team-oriented setting.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the history/architectural history of California.
Minimum Requirements
- Masters’ degree in History, Architectural History, Historic Preservation, or a related field. In progress is acceptable.
- Meets or in process of meeting the Secretary of the Interiors Professional Qualification Standards for architectural history.
- Professional experience as a consultant in the discipline of architectural history/historic preservation
- Must demonstrate strong writing and solid written and verbal communication skills.
- Highly organized with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Must be proficient in MS Office, in particular Word and Excel.
- Self-motivated with an interest in learning and growing as a project team.
- Deals with confidential information and/or issues using discretion and judgment (If applicable).
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and have active personal automobile liability insurance by first day of employment

Preferred Qualifications
- Between 1 to 3 years of professional experience in architectural history, historic preservation, and regulatory compliance in California.

- Will occasionally require fieldwork that includes workdays over 8 hours long, extensive walking, and sometimes challenging terrain.
- Willingness to come into the Dudek Sacramento office as necessary.
- This job requires occasional project site visits-based outdoors which can include excessive noise, uneven walking surfaces, extreme weather, moving vehicles and equipment.

Proposed Salary Range: $28.00-$35.00 hourly*
*Final agreed upon compensation will be based on a variety of factors including but not limited to an individual’s related experience, education, certifications, skills, and work location.
