Job description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- The Kitchen Line Cook supports the Prepared Foods Department and the Store by properly responding to the needs of customers; helping customers select items, include up-selling and cross-selling; providing food preparation advice to customers; placing and executing special orders for customers; resolving or referring customer complaints; and maintaining a friendly, polite and professional manner with and around customers at all times.
- The Line Cook measures, mixes, and cooks ingredients properly, safely and efficiently according to recipes, using a variety of equipment, including pots, pans, cutlery, ovens, broilers, grills, slicers, grinders, and blenders. The Kitchen Line Cook also cleans and maintains work areas, equipment, and utensils.
- The Kitchen Prep Cook performs routine, repetitive tasks including slicing and dicing vegetables, composing salads and cold items, weighing and measuring ingredients, stirring and straining soups and sauces, and cutting and grinding meats, poultry, and seafood in preparation for cooking. The Kitchen Prep Cook also cleans work areas, equipment, and utensils.
- Supports the Department and the Store by ensuring that proper levels of product and supplies are stocked and maintained; and taking delivery of products and supplies from receiving, other departments and/or storage.
- Supports the Department and the Store by providing training and assistance to new employees.
- Supports the Department and the Store by following our merchandising philosophy and maintaining and utilizing marketing tools such as signage and flyers to execute marketing campaigns.
- Supports the Department and the Store by maintaining the appropriate vigilance and reporting security concerns and problems to the appropriate personnel in a timely fashion.
- Functions in compliance with all of the Company's policies and procedures including but not limited to those relating to workplace communication, conduct and behavior, timeliness, attendance, safety, sanitation, security, uniforms and personal hygiene.
- Functions in compliance with all local, state, federal laws and regulations including those relating to food safety and OSHA.
- Functions in compliance with the goals and objectives and within the directives provided, with or without the direct supervision of the immediate supervisor.

Education and/or Experience:
High School diploma required, with some post-high school education or training preferred. Two or more years of relevant culinary and/or food retail experience including responsibilities in a food-related business, such as another food retailer, grocery store, caterer, hotel or restaurant; or post-high school specialized training in the same.
Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities:
- Quantitative skills and abilities including in basic mathematics; skill in working with basic weights and measures; and the ability to memorize relationships between numbers and products.
- Problem-solving and decision-making skills and abilities including the ability to identify problems, the ability to generate and implement solutions to both routine and complex problems, the ability to prioritize and balance multiple tasks simultaneously, the ability to develop one's own professional knowledge, skills, and competencies, and skill in attending to details.
- Interpersonal skills including the ability to contribute to a team; the ability to avoid and resolve conflict; the ability to follow directives, procedures and policies; the ability to communicate and relate to a diverse clientele, superiors, and peers.
- Material resource skills including the ability to bring projects and tasks to successful and timely completion; the ability to sell, up-sell, and cross-sell; merchandising skills; and telephone and computer skills.
- Culinary skills in and knowledge of properly preparing vegetables, fruit, cheeses, meat, poultry, seafood and other foodstuffs for cooking or presentation; preparing stocks, sauces and soups; baking; frying; sautéing; broiling; poaching; boiling; steaming; and presentation and garnishing skills.
Physical Demands:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, taste, and smell. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and kneel and crouch. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
- The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
