Job description
Essential Responsibilities:
- Manage operations of 24-hour departments across multiple locations.
- Ensure staff compliance with the Nursing Practice Act, The Joint Commission, and local, state, and federal requirements.
- Establish and maintain patient care and service standards.
- Design and evaluate processes to improve systems and patient care results.
- Develop and monitor budgets, identify cost-saving strategies, and improve the quality of care.
- Determine appropriate staff mix, screen, interview, hire, train, and develop department staff.
- Oversee and develop standards of care and practice, fiscal management, and quality improvement activities.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum four (4) years of clinical nursing experience related to the clinical area of specialization, including four (4) years of management, supervisory, or leadership experience.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or Master's Degree in Nursing earned through a direct entry MSN program.
- Registered Nurse License (California) required at hire.
- Basic Life Support certification.
Additional Requirements:
- Knowledge of Nurse Practice Act, The Joint Commission, and other local, state, federal regulations.
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal communication skills.
- ACLS or PALS certification may be required for positions in specific departments.
- National Certification preferred within 1 year of hire.
- Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two (2) years of management experience preferred.
- One (1) year of Magnet/shared governance experience preferred.
- One (1) year of managing in a bargaining environment preferred.
- Master's degree preferred.
Non-Negotiable Requirements:
- MUST HAVE CURRENT CA RN LICENSE (not temporary).
- Must have BSN or higher.
- Must have experience in the last 5 years as an OR RN (must have inpatient OR experience, not just ambulatory surgery).
- Must have 3-5 years as an Assistant Nurse Manager or four years exp as Dept. manager.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
- Prefer advanced education at MSN or MHA or MBA level and/or CNOR designation.
- Experience with scheduling teams helpful.
- Strong preference for experience in a union environment.
- Must be calm under pressure, a strong communicator, and able to train newer nurses.
