The Role

Energy at Tesla is a rapidly growing part of the overall business with products like Solar Roof, PV Inverter, Powerwall, Gateway, and Backup Switch providing a seamless clean energy experience for customers. To meet our goals, Tesla is constantly innovating, pioneering new energy products and services - we are seeking someone hardworking and passionate about changing the world we live in to successfully partner with utilities, governments, and authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs) to drive product adoption and remove barriers, enabling the growth of our products in markets around the world.
As a Program Manager, you'll be expected to leverage your deep technical understanding of the products, a relentless drive, and a strong knowledge of utility and AHJ regulations and processes to own the Global Operations team's policy, code compliance, and AHJ roadmap. You will use your expertise to drive strategic initiatives that unlock product growth via hardware and software product changes, utility partnerships, installation efficiency improvements, material cost downs, and cycle time reductions. This is a cross-functional role that requires coordination between many different groups within and outside of Tesla. You'll be required to wear various hats, collaborating across teams such as product & compliance engineering, aggregation programs, policy, field operations, and channel management.
Success in this role requires an excellent technical engineering foundation to understand the hardware and software products we are deploying in the physical world, as well as experience working closely with utilities and AHJs. In parallel, you must have a strong desire and proven ability of being an effective leader who brings first principles thinking to drive product adoption and acceptance.
Responsibilities - Define and set priorities for the Global Energy Operations team's overall policy, code compliance, utility, and AHJ roadmap, ensuring items and requests are well scoped and vetted
- Drive action & accountability from cross functional groups to meet business priorities
- Own and drive utility and AHJ related product change initiatives across key global markets
- Leverage first principles thinking and key relationships to solve complex product adoption and acceptance problems
- Drive strategic product growth programs, partnering with utilities and AHJs
- Report to leadership on roadmap status, critical issues, and strategic recommendations
Requirements - Direct experience driving hardware and software product adoption and acceptance with utilities, AHJs, and local governments
- Strong knowledge of global electrical and fire code, energy policy, AHJ and utility regulations and processes
- Deep technical knowledge of solar, energy storage, general electrical concepts, and home construction
- Effective communication and exceptional interpersonal skills
- A relentless drive to make things happen, without accepting the status quo
- Ability to operate independently, bringing solutions and prioritization to complex product adoption and acceptance problems
- Experience and comfort working with large datasets to drive decision making
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage simultaneous projects in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to travel up to 20% of the time
- BS in engineering or technical discipline

Expected Compensation $88,000 - $300,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
