Astrobotic Technology is seeking a Program Director to manage and lead the development and operation of the company’s flagship lunar lander, Griffin, and its missions. This highly autonomous position will lead the Mission directors and integrated project team through design, build, test and mission operations. This position serves on the leadership team within the Landers and Spacecraft Department and, as a result, has a substantial influence in the department strategic planning. This position reports to the VP of Landers and Spacecraft.
Astrobotic Technology, Inc. is a space robotics company that seeks to make space accessible to the world. The company’s lunar lander, Peregrine, delivers payloads to the Moon for companies, governments, universities, non-profits, and individuals for $1.2 million per kilogram. Astrobotic was selected by NASA in May 2019 for a $79.5 million contract to deliver payloads to the Moon in 2021. The company also has more than 30 prior and ongoing NASA and commercial technology contracts, a commercial partnership with Airbus DS, a corporate sponsorship with DHL, and 28 payloads signed on for Peregrine’s first mission to the Moon. The company is also an official partner with NASA through the Lunar CATALYST Program. Astrobotic was founded in 2007 and is headquartered in Pittsburgh, PA.
Responsibilities Include:
- Leads the functional execution of the Griffin program
- Full accountability for Griffin program life cycle planning and execution
- Accountability for Griffin program budget, integrated master schedule, and risk posture performance
- Coordination of engineering and project support with the lander team
- Coordination and management of intra-company Griffin program engineering efforts
- Establishment and management of key technical and supplier relationships
- Responsible for overseeing the Mission Director in execution of the leadership of the integrated project team: assigning and evaluating work, providing performance feedback, professional development, and connecting with resources to facilitate growth
- Accountability for ensuring the Mission Director plans, prepares, delivers and closes project activities in support of program milestone reviews
- Negotiation of program requirements and objectives with internal and external stakeholders
- Support to the development of technical proposals for mission opportunities
- Preparation and delivery of technical documentation andreporting
- Ensuring program compliance with licensing and regulatory requirements
- Coordinating with Business Development on new business opportunities
Required Qualifications:
- B.S. degree in Engineering, Systems Engineering or other related fields.
- 10 years of relevant space mission experience with management experience
- Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas: structure/thermal design and analysis, avionics, power systems, flight software, mission management, systems engineering, mission operations
- Demonstrated experience leading program teams (60+ employees)
- Demonstrated experience developing, leading and managing large budgets ($100M+)
- Demonstrated experience developing and managing integrated master schedules
- Demonstrated experience managing key technical and supplier relationships
- Demonstrated experience in life cycle development of space systems
- Demonstrated experience operating in an AS9100 or ISO9000 environment
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong organizational, multitasking and problem solving skills
Desired Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience leading life cycle development of human-rated or mission critical spaceflight systems or subsystems
- Program management experience in support of government customers
- Demonstrated direct, hands-on experience with space system integration and testing, including cleanroom operations
- Demonstrated experience working in an agile environment, using organizational tools such as Confluence and Jira
- Experience with requirements management tools such as DOORs, ReqView or JAMA
- Demonstrated experience developing process plans in support of development, manufacturing, or operations
- Candidate should be eligible of obtaining a security clearance
