Research Scientist

Position Description:

Kelly is seeking an energetic and highly motivated Research Scientist to work in the intersecting disciplines of immunology and neuromodulation. The Research Scientist will be responsible for elucidation of neuro-immune reflex pathways to enable neural modulation as a therapy for autoimmune diseases and to develop the fundamental knowledge required to deploy the therapy into widespread clinical use. The candidate will be responsible for assisting the research and discovery team in conducting a broad range of experiments, including rodent studies, mammalian cell culture (primary and cell lines) to translational clinical research, all with the ultimate goal of delivering a novel treatment intended to improve the lives of patients with chronic inflammatory disease. The selected candidate will work under the guidance of senior scientists and clinical leadership to execute preclinical work as well as perform laboratory assays on clinical samples during all stages of the therapy development. The candidate will conduct the vast majority of preclinical work from our lab space.

Responsibilities:

• Design, write protocols, conduct and report on in vitro and in vivo research studies, as well as clinical feasibility studies

• Support technical staff

• Remain current with technology and testing standards relevant to the business by reading appropriate journals and attending medical conferences

• Maintain company standards involving ethical and moral character, and always represent the company with the highest professional standards

Minimum Qualifications:

• A Ph.D. in Neurophysiology, Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, or Immunology

• Excellent organizational skills and flexibility to thrive in a dynamic start-up environment

• Working knowledge of immunology, physiology, neuroscience, and molecular biology

• Experience in common wet lab techniques (e.g. Western blot, ELISA, Immunohistochemistry) required.

• The candidate must have practical problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and as a contributing member of a research team

• Demonstrated success working on complex novel problems, often integrating data from multiple disciplines

• Excellent analytical, organizational, communication and computer skills.

• Able to learn complex tasks with general instruction

• Actively seeks opportunities to increase skills and expertise

• Excellent written/verbal communication and presentation skills and the ability to interact with people at all levels

• Publication and presentation record commensurate with experience

• The highest of ethical standards

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with rodent models of neuroinflammation/ neurodegradation

• Post-doc or prior industry experience

• Experience with rodent surgery, bioanalytical assays, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, microscopy, qPCR, RNAseq, electrophysiology
